Shilo Sanders has a clear path to the Eagles if Howie Roseman wants it
Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been busy getting his practice squad all together and constructing the 53-man roster.
Entering the 2025 season, two position groups seem to have some questions surrounding them: edge rusher and safety. While the Eagles' projected starters, Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith Jr., should be solid, the backups are a question mark as to whether they will be adequate.
Safety is a whole other story. Reed Blankenship is the only player at safety for whom Eagles fans can be confident. Sydney Brown is a question mark as he hasn't really played many snaps under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's scheme. Rookie second-round pick Andrew Mukuba got hurt in practice last week and is still recovering with an unknown timetable to return. The Eagles were up late Wednesday night to bring back a familiar face in Marcus Epps, but he's coming off an ACL injury last year.
Roseman has stated he's not done adding players to the roster and could have more up his sleeve. There's one option that could help them build for the future.
Shilo Sanders could be worth a look for the Eagles
Before Eagles fans go off the rails with the idea of Sanders joining the team, there are positives to his game. Yes, he's a developmental player, and yes, the Sanders' last name brings a lot more eyes to the team. He's still a solid football player.
Sanders was signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going undrafted this year and made four tackles in the preseason. His most memorable moment in the preseason was not a good one, as he was ejected from the final game against the Buffalo Bills for throwing a punch. He was released from the team the next day.
He's not a perfect player, but the Eagles need more help in the secondary and to develop young talent. If Roseman doesn't want him on the 53-man roster, he's at least worth it to put on the practice squad in 2025.
Sanders brings physicality to the position while also being a ball hawk in the secondary. Again, there's work to be done with him, but he's a good enough player to work on the small things over the next year.
Will he be a starter for the Eagles? Not this year, but give him another year to develop and who knows. Mukuba looks like he's got potential, but the Eagles need a backup to work with and Sanders would fit that bill.
