Seahawks Announce Controversial New Jerseys & Helmets Days Before NFL Season
The Seattle Seahawks are adding a new wrinkle to the team’s uniform combination for 2025. One week before the NFL season begins, the Seahawks announced a new alternate uniform.
Seattle is one of several teams participating in Nike’s new “Rivalries” uniforms for the upcoming season. The newest addition to the Seahawks uniform rotation is a nod to the 12s.
Fans of the former alternate Wolf Grey uniforms will find some solace in the latest look with the color making a triumphant return. Seattle unveiled all grey jerseys and pants with sound waves on the shoulder pads.
The pants also feature sound waves with the franchise paying homage to the notable frenzied environment created by the 12s in Seattle. Yet, the biggest surprise may be the Seahawks unveiling a third green helmet.
“The new uniform also introduces a third helmet to the Seahawks closet featuring the same iconic hawk head design as the team’s primary helmet, in a metallic Chrome finish on top of the Iridescent Green base,” the Seahawks announced.
The 12s are already reacting strongly on social media to the Seahawks’ bold new uniforms.
The Seahawks Introducing Green to the New Uniforms Is Met With Controversy
For those wondering why the Seahawks introduced green on the new uniforms, the move appears to be a nod to Seattle’s nickname as the “Emerald City.” The jerseys also feature shades of green on the numbers with the No. 12 written over and over.
Some fans are loving Seattle’s vibrant new look, but detractors point out that the green makes the uniforms too similar to the Philadelphia Eagles’ threads.
The good news for those not in favor of the new look is the Seahawks will only be wearing the uniforms one time during the 2025 season. Aside from also occasionally wearing their throwback uniforms, the Seahawks will be primarily rocking their signature navy and white look throughout the year.
New Seahawks Uniforms Will Be Worn vs. Rams on December 18
For those wondering why Nike is calling these new threads their “Rivalries” uniforms, the jerseys will be worn for one game per season against the team’s rival. The NFC West and AFC East are the eight teams selected to wear these new uniforms in 2025.
“Each participating team will wear a unique Rivalries uniform rooted extensively in local community insights during a single home game against a division rival,” Nike announced in a April 25, 2025, statement. “Following their reveal, these Rivalries uniforms will be included in their team’s uniform lineup for three years after introduction, in addition to existing alternate uniforms.
“Teams from the AFC South and NFC North will debut their Rivalries uniforms in 2026, followed by NFC East and AFC West teams in 2027, and teams from the AFC North and NFC South in 2028.”
Reactions to New Seahawks Uniforms: Some Fans Are Not In Favor of the ‘Rivalries’ Uniforms
As for the reactions, some fans appear to be in favor of the stark contrast from the Seahawks’ traditional uniforms. Others are strongly against the look pointing out the uniforms are too similar to Oregon or the Eagles.
“So you’re saying you’re the @Eagles now?” one fan asked.
“… Looks like they are for the Jets, The Oregon Ducks, or the Eagles,” pointed out another.
“Oh are we the Philadelphia EAGLES now???? Cool,” one person added.
“The intellectual laziness of selling us Oregon unis 😌,” another noted.
