Nick Sirianni Goes Viral for Hilarious Move During Eagles Preseason Clash vs. Browns
Nick Sirianni tried to ice the Browns kicker during the Eagles latest preseason contest
The Philadelphia Eagles took on the Cleveland Browns in their second preseason contest on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 22-13 loss after picking up a 34-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals last week. Despite the tough result, head coach Nick Sirianni got a closer look at some of the players on the team’s roster bubble, and he had some fun at the Browns’ expense along the way.
For the most part, preseason contests are lighthearted affairs that offer teams a chance to prepare for certain situations they may face in the regular season. Don’t tell Sirianni that, though, as he pulled out a hilarious move on Cleveland at the end of the second quarter that quickly led to him going viral on social media.
Nick Sirianni Tries to Ice the Browns’ Kicker
Ever since taking over as the Eagles’ head coach, Sirianni has been one of the most divisive personalities in the league. He’s helped turn Philadelphia into a perennial playoff contender, but the road to getting there wasn’t always easy. Sirianni has been known for having an abrasive personality at times, leading to outbursts geared towards his opponents, or sometimes even fans in the stands.
In 2023, the Eagles endured a mind-boggling collapse under Sirianni’s watch, which resulted in him being on the hot seat entering the 2024 campaign. Of course, Philly went on to win Super Bowl LIX in dominant fashion, resulting in Sirianni turning himself from a punching bag into a franchise legend.
Even after adding a ring to their trophy cabinet, the Eagles have made it clear they aren’t content with winning a championship last season. They want to win another one in 2025, and that starts with building good habits in training camp and the preseason. Case in point, Sirianni tried to ice Browns kicker Andre Szmyt on Saturday, leading to a hilarious interaction with Cleveland’s head coach, Kevin Stefanski.
Nick Sirianni, Eagles Eyeing Another Super Bowl in 2025
While the move may have been done in jest, it goes to show the relentless mindset Sirianni has imparted on his team. Szmyt may have ended up hitting the kick, but there’s certainly going to be a situation in which Sirianni wants to try and ice the kicker during the upcoming campaign. Why not get the process figured out during the preseason? After all, this is the time for ironing out all the kinks, even the ones that may not seem to be that big of an issue to fans of the team.
Sirianni has experienced a wave of highs and lows during his four-season stint in charge of the Eagles, so he knows better than anyone that winning one championship isn’t enough. Philly is going to have a massive target on its back entering the season, but that’s what happens when you are the best team in the league. Repeating as a Super Bowl champion is no small feat, but with Sirianni at the controls, the Eagles have as good a chance as anyone of winning it all in 2025.
