Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson was supposed to establish himself in the upper echelon of players at his position in 2024, but injuries and a concussion, coupled with losing Dak Prescott after Week 9, halted that.
A poor season statistically followed, with Ferguson posting just 494 yards and zero touchdowns from his 59 receptions. So, it wasn’t the year Jake, nor the Cowboys had envisioned.
But now, with Week 1 of the new season just a week away, with Dallas traveling to face the Philadelphia Eagles, is Ferguson looking to start his bounce-back season with a bang?
“Me personally, I don’t really think too far ahead in that sense,” Ferguson said on looking at 2025 as a bounce-back year. “I know what I’m capable of. I know what I need to do and that starts with every single day. I can’t look that far ahead. So, it’s just for me it’s about getting better every single day. One thing to get better on and moving forward with that.”
We saw what Ferguson was capable of with Dak in 2023, posting 761 yards and five touchdowns from 71 receptions, and something similar in 2025 would be nice.
CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and KaVontae Turpin will get all the attention, leaving Ferguson and Prescott to connect in the middle of the field, something they did regularly in 2023.
We don’t know what to expect from Brian Schottenheimer’s offense this upcoming season, given that we have yet to see any of the clubs in the offensive bag throughout preseason, so Ferguson’s role isn’t yet known.
But one thing is for sure: if he stays healthy, last year will look like the “fluke” that we think it was.
