As Dancing With the Stars fans wait to see which celebrities are gracing the ballroom on season 34, cohosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro got in on the fun with their own performance.
In Us Weekly‘s exclusive first look at the extended promo for season 34, Hough, 37, and Ribeiro, 53, busted a move to “Pump Up the Jam” by Technotronic before ABC’s ballroom dance competition returns on September 16.
The network already announced that TikToker Alix Earle and Steve Irwin‘s son, Robert Irwin, are competing for the mirrorball trophy next season. During the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives reunion special, which aired in July, host Nick Viall revealed that both Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt were chosen to join the DWTS cast.
The full roster of celebrity participants and returning DWTS pros will be officially revealed on the September 3 episode of Good Morning America. Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli are expected to return as judges alongside Ribeiro and Julianne as hosts.
During an exclusive interview with Us earlier this month, Derek, 40, and Julianne revealed they wouldn’t rule out performing on DWTS again.
“We should. That door is always open for us to get together and do something fun, especially on Dancing With the Stars,” Derek teased about teaming up with his sister.
Derek and Julianne also weighed in on possibly swapping their current roles as judge and cohost.
“Jules has been there, done that,” Derek quipped. “Got the T-shirt. … The next thing she’s got to do on that show is, I don’t know, she could direct it or something.”
Julianne noted that she felt “very solid” as Ribeiro’s cohost, adding, “I’ve been on the stage and now I love watching other people shine. I get to also watch as a fan this time and then I get to support and hopefully ask the right kind of questions to have America fall in love with them and want to root for them. So I really love my current position.”
While previewing season 34, Derek teased that there’s going to be “a lot of tea.”
“I don’t know what that means these days, but I guess that’s a phrase that people use,” Derek told Us. “Tea will be spilled. I think there’s a lot of energy. There’s a lot of momentum with Dancing With the Stars. … I think that momentum is gonna carry through into this one and it’s already feeling bigger than it’s ever been before we’ve even started. I think it’s going to be a big season.”
“The fact that it’s the 20th year and it’s never felt more relevant and in the zeitgeist of what’s happening in pop culture, it’s kind of incredible,” she shared. “But I always say — this is my woo woo side — I’m like, ‘It’s family. It’s connected. It’s a transformation show masked in rhinestones and fringe and dancing.’ It’s truly about watching people go on a journey and we get to go on it with them.”
