Broncos Icon Calls Out Offense Amid ‘Concerning’ Trend vs Jets
Three-time Super Bowl champion and former NFL wide receiver Ed McCarffrey still has a rooting interest in the Denver Broncos, having helped the team win its first Super Bowl. But he was displeased with what he saw from his former team at times in Week 6.
The Broncos, in London to take on the New York Jets, had a series of offensive mishaps and inconsistencies that stalled their drives.
McCaffrey, like many who were monitoring the Broncos, voiced his concerns on social media.
Ed McCaffrey Calls Out Broncos’ Offense
Through three quarters, the Broncos had 184 yards of offense, and they were 4-for-11 on third downs, but McCaffrey was invested in the game early.
“Wow, bizarre ending to first half,” McCaffrey posted on X on October 12 as Denver took a 10-9 lead into the break. “I know we’d like to establish the run in the second but there are plenty of opportunities to be made in the passing game by @Broncos WR’s vs man coverage if Bo can deliver. Do you BOlieve? #BroncosCountry.”
He did not like their three-and-out to start the second half, either.
“Ok, that drive was brutal,” McCaffrey posted following another stalled possession. “I know the @Broncos Offense is going to clean it up but let’s not wait much longer. Let’s gooooo! #BroncosCountry.”
At one point, Broncos head coach Sean Payton could also be seen upset with the showing.
“What is happening?” McCaffrey said in yet another post during the game after Denver allowed a safety. “@Broncos UGH !?!”
The Broncos struggled to maintain any offensive momentum against the Jets’ defense. That was despite a balanced attack. They had 23 rushes to 18 carries with 13:31 on the clock in the fourth quarter of the contest.
That includes another quick offensive drive, which followed McCaffrey again asking for more.
“Ok, let’s go @Broncos!” McCaffrey urged in another post during the fourth quarter. “Time for Offense to help the Defense. Right Now! #BroncosCountry.”
The Broncos finished the game with 246 total yards of offense, and they were 5-for-15 on third downs. Most importantly, though, they came away with a win, pushing their record to 4-2 on the season with the New York Giants on deck in Week 7.
Noteworthy Moments Throughout Broncos-Jets
The Broncos’ safety gave the Jets the lead. McCaffrey warned that they would try to get their No. 1 wide receiver, Garrett Wilson.

Later, McCaffrey said he did not like a fumble by Wilson that officials overturned.

Courtland Sutton Sideline Chat With Bo Nix Draws Attention
The Broncos’ offensive struggles – which McCaffrey’s former quarterback and fellow franchise legend, John Elway, warned against – had DNVR’s Zac Stevens calling out the “concerning” display from Denver during the game.
One moment that garnered attention was Broncos wideout Courtland Sutton speaking with Bo Nix on the sideline.
“Bo Nix credited Courtland Sutton last week for keeping him steady in second half vs. Eagles. Here they are again in a rough situation in London in 4Q,” The Denver Post’s Luca Evans posted on X on October 12. “#Broncos have the ball, Sutton only has one catch. Would bet we see some action for him this drive.”
On the first play of the Broncos’ next possession, Nix rolled out to his right with Sutton as a deep option. However, Nix’s pass, which fell between Sutton and tight end Evan Engram, was incomplete.
That drive ended with Nix and the Broncos scoring on Wil Lutz’s field goal for a 13-11 lead.
The Broncos emerged victorious, thanks largely to their defense, but they do not have a bye week coming after this successful trip across the pond. There remains work to be done before Week 7.
