Vikings Reveal Plan for Jordan Addison Ahead of Preseason Finale
Jordan Addison will get one more chance to play in the preseason before serving a three-game suspension.
Jordan Addison will get to play one more game after all before serving his impending three-game suspension.
The Minnesota Vikings revealed their plan for the standout No. 2 wide receiver, which includes him playing their final preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on Friday night.
Addison did not play Minnesota’s penultimate exhibition game against the New England Patriots on Saturday afternoon. He has three catches for 33 yards this preseason, with all of his reps coming in Minnesota’s first preseason game against the Houston Texans.
Addison, the 2021 Biletnikoff Award winner and No. 23 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, has played 32 games and has 133 catches for 1,786 yards and 19 touchdowns for the Vikings.
Why Is Jordan Addison Being Suspended?
Addison was suspended three games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy stemming from his arrest in 2024.
The third-year Vikings receiver pleaded down last month to a charge of “wet reckless driving” and not DUI in Los Angeles. He reportedly was caught asleep behind the wheel, and not operating his Rolls Royce, but was still booked since his blood-alcohol level was reportedly above the legal limit of 0.08.
“While Mr. Addison’s case would have made for a great trial, I admire him for taking responsibility by accepting the city attorney’s ‘wet reckless’ offer,” Addison’s attorney Jacqueline Sparagna said, according to ESPN.com. “Now he can put this incident behind him and solely focus on his promising career.”
Though the lesser charge did spare him from a more serious legal charge — Addison will need to pay a $390 fine, undergo classes and be on probation for 12 months — the NFL was not so lenient. The NFL’s multi-game ban is expected to cost him more than $620,000 in pay plus potential bonuses and more.
“Whatever’s out there for me, whatever comes with it, I’ll own up to everything,” Addison recently said. “I feel like anything that comes my way is meant to happen or is deserved.”
Why Is Jordan Addison Playing The Preseason Finale?
Maybe the Vikings want Addison to get some game action at U.S. Bank Stadium, since he will not be eligible to play a regular-season game in the Twin Cities until Week 7 due to scheduling quirks in Minnesota’s slate.
All kidding aside, the Vikings surely want Addison to get some game reps in his last game until he has banished from the Vikings facility for three weeks. Plus, he is a healthy body who can fill in for Justin Jefferson or some of the other Minnesota starters who will play Week 1 against the Chicago Bears.
Addison has been eligible to participate in all preseason activities while he waited for his case to play out — and even after the NFL ruled on his suspension. But once the preseason ends, he will not be available for practices, meetings or any team-related activities until his suspension is over.
Addison will be eligible to return for Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a game played at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland.
The Vikings, of course, have a first-year starting quarterback in J.J. McCarthy, and they will surely want he and Addison to have as good of a rapport as possible before Addison needs to go home — especially since the Vikings have Super Bowl aspirations after going 14-3 and making the playoffs a year ago.
