The San Francisco 49ers grinded out another victory in Week 3, as they picked up a 16-15 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday to move to 3-0 on the season, giving them full control of the NFC West division for the time being. The injuries keep on piling up, though, with the latest guy getting banged up being superstar defender Nick Bosa.
In the second quarter, Bosa was forced out of the game with a knee injury, and he gave a thumbs down to a fan when walking off the field, which could potentially indicate a serious injury for the star pass rusher. In the wake of the team’s win, they have received an important update on Bosa’s injury status that quickly caught the attention of fans.
Nick Bosa Set to Undergo Tests on Knee Injury
Injuries plagued the Niners all year in 2024, and they have already suffered several significant blows, even before Bosa left their latest win. Star quarterback Brock Purdy missed his second straight game on Sunday, and tight end George Kittle was placed on injured reserve after Week 1 with a hamstring injury. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings was ruled out for this game on Sunday, and several offensive linemen weren’t available for this one either.
And yet, it hasn’t mattered, as San Francisco has somehow found a way to win each of its first three games. That has been due in large part to its defense, which has managed to remain far healthier than its offense. If injuries begin to pop up on this side of the ball, though, the 49ers could find themselves in a really tricky spot moving forward.
If there was one guy on defense that San Fran did not want to lose, it was Bosa, but sure enough, he ended up going down and being forced out of this game early. The Niners are still trying to figure out the severity of Bosa’s injury, and while head coach Kyle Shanahan said the team doesn’t think he suffered an ACL injury, he will undergo a series of tests on Monday to determine the extent of the injury.
“Nick Bosa, their star defensive end, left the game early with a knee injury, Kyle Shanahan saying after the game they do not believe it is an ACL injury,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said on “Good Morning Football.” “That is a good sign, but they’re going to check everything in that knee, gonna have an MRI, I believe that is going to be today. Any absence for Nick Bosa on this stellar, stellar defense, it would certainly be something that would hurt the 49ers.”
49ers Look to Continue Winning Ways in Week 4 vs. Jaguars

Ideally, Bosa won’t have to miss any time with this injury, but it seems like the 49ers are bracing for him to be out for a while. As long as he can return this season, San Francisco will likely be happy, and while he seems to have avoided an ACL injury, he still has several other serious injuries that he will be looking to avoid.
While the team waits for a concrete update on Bosa’s status, they will turn their attention to Week 4, where a matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars waits. Reinforcements could be on the way, as Purdy seems to have a shot of returning for Week 4, as does Jennings. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET, and San Fran will look to pick up its fourth straight win to open the new season when it returns to action next week.
