The Seattle Seahawks have had a busy week to say the least. After blowing out the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football, the Seahawks swung a deal at the trade deadline with the New Orleans Saints for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed. However, the addition of Shaheed forced Seattle’s front office to make a move that could come back to haunt them.
In order to make room for Shaheed, the Seahawks waived safety Jerrick Reed from their roster. It didn’t take long for him to find a new home, as the Tennessee Titans quickly scooped him up on waivers. That resulted in one of Seattle’s old friends, three-time Pro Bowl safety Quandre Diggs, getting dealt some bad news, though.

Titans have parted ways with veteran safety Quandre Diggs two days after being awarded safety Jerrick Reed II off waivers from the Seahawks.
The Seahawks selected Reed in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and he’s ended up playing in 19 games over the past three seasons for the team. While he’s made contributions as a special teams player, he struggled to carve out a role for himself in the secondary, and it resulted in the front office deciding he was expendable in the wake of their trade for Shaheed.
One team’s trash is another team’s treasure, and Tennessee quickly pounced on the opportunity to add a talented young player in Reed who has quite a bit of upside. However, that meant the end of the line for Diggs, who previously earned three Pro Bowl selections from 2020 to 2022 during his time with Seattle.
Diggs had played in all nine games for the Titans this season, but his role had decreased over the past couple of weeks. With Tennessee having just one win so far this season, it is looking to develop some more young talent, which led to the team releasing Diggs now that Reed has found his way to town.

While losing Reed is obviously less than ideal, it’s not as if the Seahawks are lacking safeties. Coby Bryant and Ty Okada are a solid starting duo, and Nick Emmanwori continues to look like a star in the making when he finds his way onto the field. With Reed gone, though, the depth at this spot isn’t what it once was. Could the team consider reuniting with Diggs as an extra layer of depth now that Reed is with the Titans?
It’s fair to wonder if this is something that could interest both parties, although chances are Diggs will be looking to sign to another team’s active roster. If no such opportunity appears, though, returning to Seattle as a member of the team’s practice squad wouldn’t be a bad fallback option. As a result, it will be worth keeping tabs on Diggs’ status to see if a reunion is in the cards.
