Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi immediately began placing his fingerprints on the roster following his appointment on January 17th. Less than two months into his tenure, Borgonzi made one of his first big-time moves by releasing cornerback Chido Awuzie from his contract. Awuzie had completed just one season in Tennessee after previous GM Ran Carthon signed him to a three-year, $36 million deal.
Releasing Awuzie wasn't a straightforward decision. It cost the Titans $12.51 million versus the cap and only saved Borgonzi $1.5 million in cap space, per OverTheCap. The Titans still owed him $7.51 million, which was guaranteed at signing.
Awuzie then joined the Baltimore Ravens in free agency. Naturally, the former Colorado standout has been outstanding for the Ravens throughout 2025. Awuzie is another former Titans castoff who is currently playing better football elsewhere.
Former Titans CB Chido Awuzie is thriving with the Baltimore Ravens
Awuzie has appeared in all four contests for the Ravens this season. The former second-round selection has allowed just 11 receptions on 18 targets for 113 yards and one touchdown, per
Awuzie only appeared in eight games for the Titans last season. Recurring injuries forced him to spend a sizable portion of the campaign on IR. When Borgonzi released him, it was believed that sophomore cornerback Jarvis Brownlee was a promising in-house replacement. Well, Borgonzi traded Brownlee to the New York Jets for scraps last week and the Titans now lack both depth and an obvious starter opposite L'Jarius Sneed at the position.
The Titans continue to watch castoffs thrive elsewhere. Fellow offseason releasee Harold Landry is producing for Mike Vrabel the New England Patriots. Awuzie is playing good football with the Ravens, while the Titans are rotating waiver wire castoffs at cornerback.
