The Detroit Lions seem to have found an excellent solution to Marcus Davenport's recent IR stint, with Al-Quadin Muhammad stepping up immediately in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens.
After being inserted into the starting defensive lineup, he had 2.5 sacks, multiple tackles, and key pressures on Lamar Jackson that were leading to sacks elsewhere. He, rightfully, earned a game ball from head coach Dan Campbell, and has looked to be an excellent sidekick to Aidan Hutchinson so far this season.
But, he was a surprising addition to the Lions' injury report on Wednesday, days before they're set to take on the 1-2 Cleveland Browns at Ford Field. A knee injury is what was listed for Muhammad as he did not take part in practice. Along with Muhammad, Taylor Decker (shoulder), Daniel Thomas (forearm), Sione Vaki (groin), Derrick Barnes (knee), and D.J. Reed (cramping) all also popped up on the report.
Muhammad on Lions' first injury report ahead of Week 4
While this is a bit concerning, especially with how thin the Lions' EDGE depth is at the moment, Muhammad told reporters after practice on Wednesday that he expects to play on Sunday against a struggling Cleveland offensive line.
That's potentially a game-saving bit of news, considering Detroit would have just Hutchinson, Tyrus Wheat, and Tyler Lacy available on their depth chart to suit up at the EDGE.
It's tough that Muhammad is likely going to need to keep playing through some discomfort because of how bad Detroit's current depth is at the position, but if he says he's good enough to go, then there shouldn't be too much of a concern for fans looking forward to seeing him in action against the Browns.
As for Decker, we've known he's been nursing a lingering shoulder injury since the start of the season. It hasn't been impacting him much, as he's been earning high marks the last two weeks of the season and just had a PFF grade of 82.9 against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3.
As for Vaki, it's rough to see that he had a brief regular season debut before getting hurt again. It looks like Jacob Saylors and Craig Reynolds will continue to get more burn if he can't suit up for this game. Saylors has been solid as a punt returner for Detroit, hitting 172 return yards on seven kicks.
