Steelers’ DK Metcalf Delivers Clear Message on ‘Grudge Match’ vs. Seahawks
Posted September 13, 2025
The Pittsburgh Steelers dealt with “revenge” storylines surrounding both quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields entering the 2025 NFL season opener. The Steelers have yet another revenge narrative for Week 2 with new receiver DK Metcalf.
The receiver’s new team will host the Seattle Seahawks for their home opener Sunday. NFL.com’s Kevin Patra referred to the showdown as a potential “grudge match.”
Metcalf played the first six seasons of his NFL career with Seattle. The Seahawks traded the 27-year-old to Pittsburgh for a second-round pick in March.
Despite the matchup with his former team, though, Metcalf made it clear to reporters this week he’s not focused on “sticking it” to the organization that traded him.
“Y’all are going to make it a big deal,” Metcalf told reporters. “I’m not.
“It’s just another football game.”
The Seahawks drafted Metcalf at No. 64 overall in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He made two Pro Bowls and the second-team All-Pro squad during his Seattle tenure.
Metcalf earned a second contract from the Seahawks before the final season of his rookie deal. But Seattle traded the wideout with one year remaining on that deal before Metcalf could get a third contract.
The veteran receiver signed a four-year, $132 million extension with the Steelers after the team acquired him on March 13.
JJ McCarthy Thanks Teammates and Coaches for Huge Win Ahead of Vikings' Week 2 Matchup with Falcons
Before the Minnesota Vikings gear up for their highly anticipated Week 2 showdown against the Atlanta Falcons, star quarterback JJ McCarthy took a moment to express his gratitude to his teammates and coaches following a massive victory. The win, which has given the team much-needed momentum, was a testament to the hard work and preparation that has gone into every practice and game.
“I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teammates and coaching staff,” McCarthy said after the game. “We’re a team, and every victory is a reflection of the effort we all put in. I’m proud of the work we’ve done, and I’m excited for what’s next. We’ll carry this momentum into Week 2 and stay focused on what we need to do to keep improving.”
McCarthy’s leadership and performance on the field were key to the victory, but he was quick to share the spotlight with his teammates and coaches. "Everyone contributed, and it’s a total team effort," he added. “I’m thankful for the trust my coaches have in me and for the relentless effort from my teammates. This is just the beginning.”
As the Vikings look ahead to their matchup with the Falcons, McCarthy’s message of unity and gratitude has only strengthened the team's resolve. With their sights set on continued success, McCarthy and the Vikings are poised for an exciting Week 2 as they prepare to face another tough opponent.
