Seahawks-Falcons Strike Trade Just Hours Before NFL Roster Cuts Deadline
The Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons agreed to a trade just hours before the NFL requires all teams to finalize their 53-man rosters on August 26, 2025. Seattle landed a late-round pick while Atlanta adds some much-needed depth on the offensive line.
The Seahawks have traded offensive tackle Michael Jerrell to the Falcons for a 2027 seventh-round pick, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. This news comes as Falcons right tackle Kaleb McGary is expected to miss significant time with a leg injury.
It is especially notable given Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is left handed, meaning the right side of the offensive line is especially important. Jerrell played in 10 games, including three starts, for the Seahawks in 2024.
“One of the first big moves,” The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta noted in an August 26, message on X. “Seahawks have Josh Jones set as the swing backup tackle.”
Here’s what you need to know about the Seahawks-Falcons trade.
The Seahawks Face Their Own Questions on the Offensive Line
The Seahawks have their own offensive line questions as it remains to be seen if the front office did enough to address the position this offseason. All eyes will be on Seahawks’ first-round pick Grey Zabel to see how the guard performs during his rookie season.
“Thought Seattle would hang into Jerrell, but the Falcons have injuries there and Amari Kight had been pushing him,” Emerald Spectrum’s Corbin Smith said on August 26.
