Seahawks Cut Ties With Playmaker Before Bucs Game & Immediately Signs With New Team
The Seattle Seahawks continue to make moves to improve the team’s running back depth. As Seattle made a new addition, the front office also parted ways with a recent signing just days before the team’s Week 5 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Seahawks signed former Washington Huskies standout Myles Gaskin to the team’s practice squad. To make room for Gaskin, Seattle parted ways with Khalil Herbert. Seattle initially announced the signing of the former Chicago Bears veteran on September 23, 2025.
Less than two weeks later, the Seahawks are moving on from Herbert in favor of Gaskin. It is not all bad news for Herbert who quickly signed with a new AFC team.
Here’s what you need to know about the latest Seahawks roster moves.
The Jets Signed RB Khalil Herbert Just 1 Day After Being Released by the Seahawks
It did not take long for Herbert to find a new home. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the New York Jets signed Herbert as running back Braelon Allen is dealing with an injury.
“Jets signed RB Khalil Herbert and placed RB Braelon Allen on injured reserve,” Schefter detailed in an October 2, message on X.
The Seahawks initially signed Herbert as Zach Charbonnet was dealing with an injury. Seattle now looks to have a healthy duo of Charbonnet and Ken Walker, but Gaskin gives the team a bit of insurance with an experienced veteran behind the Seahawks one-two punch at running back.
Buccaneers vs. Seahawks: Both Teams Will Be Wearing Their Throwback Uniforms
The Week 5 matchup will feature vintage looks for both the Buccaneers and Seahawks. Both teams will be wearing their throwback uniforms for the contest.
Tampa Bay will be wearing their “Bucco Bruce” white uniforms with creamsicle accents. Seattle will be rocking their blue throwbacks with silver helmets and pants.
The Seahawks Took Advantage of a Mini-Bye Week
The downside of playing a Thursday Night Football matchup is suiting up on a short week. Yet, the Seahawks are also taking advantage of the flip side by getting an extended rest prior to Week 5 after facing the Arizona Cardinals.
“Guys are in good spirits,” Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald said of the mini-bye week, per Seahawks.com. “It’s important for us to be sharp today.
“Coming back off a little of a break here. We practiced on Monday briefly, so really important that we have a great day today. Just had a great walkthrough and we’re excited for this opportunity.”
The Buccaneers Are a 3-Point Underdog vs. Seahawks
The Seahawks find themselves as a 3-point favorite versus the Buccaneers in the NFL odds for Week 5, per FanDuel.
Quarterbacks Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield were once teammates with the Carolina Panthers. Mayfield shot down the notion that they would “reminisce” about their time together in Carolina, but things have turned out for the best for both signal-callers.
“Sam and I are really close,” Mayfield said of his relationship with Darnold, per ESPN’s Jenna Laine. “I’m happy for him — from going a couple different places that weren’t great for us to having a good opportunity elsewhere, it’s fun to see.
“I knew he just needed that chance, and he’s thriving now. It’s good to see, but hopefully not this weekend.”
Mac Jones opens up after his injury against the Rams, vowing to come back stronger and lead the 49ers to success.
