Report: AFC GM Makes Intriguing Eagles Prediction After Trade
The Philadelphia Eagles, for the second straight August, once again made a trade for a former early round receiver from the 2022 draft class. 2024 saw the Eagles send a third and two seventh round picks to division rivals, the Washington Commanders, in exchange for ex 16th overall pick, Jahan Dotson, and a fifth rounder.
Dotson was a far cry from a rip-roaring success, although he did contribute 42 receiving yards in Super Bowl LIX, the first of which was nearly ruled a touchdown in the first quarter.
Eagles Make Another August Move For A Wide Receiver
Being a bit more cautious in 2025, Philadelphia still decided to make a similar move, but giving up less draft compensation in doing so, per Adam Schefter.
Trade official: Eagles have acquired WR John Metchie III and a 2026 6th-round pick from the Texans in exchange for TE Harrison Bryant and a 2026 5th-round pick.

Swapping a fifth for a sixth is hardly the out-there esque trade that general manager, Howie Roseman, has made his name on. And it certainly does not compare to giving up a little less than a third rounder for a former top-20 pick.
But it does indicate both Roseman’s desire to make deals – something that is very well documented – and the team’s continued aggressive stance in an improving NFC conference whilst in the midst of a Super Bowl window – as one AFC general manager pointed out, according to Jordan Schultz.
Text from an AFC GM: “Don’t think Eagles are done with trades. They have so many picks next year and that team is always gonna be aggressive.” https://t.co/LaoYmHHHAI

Who Could Howie Roseman Make A Deal For Before The Start Of The Season?
It’s rare that teams stack up numerous trades over the course of a single offseason, but few make more deals than the long time, two-time Super Bowl-winning general manager.
You can never tell exactly who a GM has their eye on, nor exactly what position they will target. However, The Philly Special’s Anthony DiBona had some ideas about what Roseman might do on a piece written just after the Metchie deal.
DiBona believes that the most likely next course of action – if there is a final trade to be made – will likely come in the trenches on either the offensive or defensive lines.
“The Eagles have already made a deal for a CB and a WR this month.” DiBona writes, “While I’d never rule out anything for Roseman, my guess is that he would add a player on the OL or at EDGE, if he were to make another deal before Week 1.
In Roseman’s two most recent deals, he has traded for a player on their rookie contract.”
Dibona then lists both Falcons edge rushers, Arnold Ebiketie and DeAngelo Malone as potential options, alongside the New York Giants‘ former top-10 pick and tackle-turned-guard, Evan Neal.
Neal is currently competing to be the Giants’ starting right guard, going head-to-head with veteran Greg Van Roten, whilst Malone is buried on the Falcons depth chart after the team drafted both Jalon Walker and James Pierce in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Ebiketie would be the most intriguing prospect, particularly for a team that does not have a ton of elite-level strength atop their outside linebackers position group. He currently is listed as a starter head of both Walker and Pierce, alongside veteran Leonard Floyd, but it would not be surprising to see him usurped of his position come of the first couple of games of the season.
If that does happen, look for Howie to come a-knocking.
