Commanders Address WR Injuries with Signing of Veteran Robbie Chosen

The Washington Commanders are currently dealing with some injuries at the wide receiver position.
In Week 4, the team had to play without Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown. Those two receivers have combined for 13 catches for 185 yards this season, so that's a ton of experience missing. Against the Falcons, Deebo Samuel picked up some of the slack, and
To help remedy the situation, the Commanders brought in an experienced veteran on Tuesday. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Robbie Chosen was added to the Commanders' practice squad.
Chosen signed with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason but did not make the final roster. The veteran was added to the practice squad but was then released a week later. Chosen remained a free agent until being signed by the Commanders on Tuesday.
In 2024, Chosen played in two games for the Miami Dolphins and caught one pass for five yards. However, in the past, Chosen has been a reliable receiver, but it's been a while.
Back in 2021 with the Carolina Panthers, Chosen caught 53 passes for 519 yards and five touchdowns. The receiver's best season came in 2020 when he caught 95 passes for 1,096 yards and three touchdowns, also with the Panthers. Overall, Chosen has 379 catches for 5,082 yards and 30 touchdowns in 122 games for four different teams.
Notably, Chosen was with the Commanders' offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury, in Arizona during the 2022 season.
While Chosen is well past his prime, it doesn't hurt to add experience. Samuel, McCaffrey, Chris Moore, and Jaylin Lane are the only healthy receivers on the roster currently. Jacoby Jones, Tay Martin, and Ja'Corey Brooks are other receivers currently on the team's practice squad.
