Patrick Mahomes opens up about Chiefs losing Super Bowl to Eagles
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes entered the ongoing season on a so-called "revenge tour" after the Chiefs suffered a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX this past February.
While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Mahomes opened up about that defeat as he and the Chiefs prepare to host the 1-0 Eagles this coming Sunday.
Has Patrick Mahomes rewatched Super Bowl loss to Philadelphia Eagles?
"Yeah, I mean, I’ll watch every game after, so you have to learn from it," Mahomes responded when asked if he has reviewed the game film from the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "I mean, it sucks that you lose the game, but in order to progress and to be better next time, you have to watch and learn from it. And so, I don’t know the exact amount of times, but you watch it, and then you watch it in the offseason with the team and with the coaches, and then you watch it obviously this week as well."
Mahomes tossed a pair of interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, as the Eagles established a 34-0 lead in what became a Super Bowl blowout. More recently, he completed 24-of-39 passes for 258 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions during Kansas City's 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil on Sept. 5. Pro Football Reference stats show that Mahomes ended Week 1 ranked eighth in the NFL with an 81.8 adjusted QBR.
"...At the end of the day, you’re going to have failures in this league," Mahomes continued. "It’s about how you respond from those failures. And that’s something that’s important to anyone’s career. But for me, I got to continue to push to be even better so that I don’t make those same mistakes whenever I get the opportunity to again."
Why Kansas City Chiefs-Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl rematch has "extra juice"
According to Christopher Boan of RotoWire, nine of 128 teams that dropped their first two regular-season contests from 2015 to 2024 reached the playoffs for that campaign. Thus, one could say that Sunday's showdown at Arrowhead Stadium means more to the Chiefs than the Eagles for multiple reasons.
"I think if you’re playing your first game at Arrowhead against the reigning Super Bowl champions, there’s got to be some extra juice," Mahomes acknowledged. "I mean, it’s our first home game, I’m sure there will be a cool flyover, you know, you get everything you need. So, there’s no reason you should come out flat this game."
As of Thursday morning, ESPN BET had the Eagles as 1.5-point road favorites for Sunday's game. Perhaps such information will give Mahomes some additional bulletin-board material heading into the weekend.
Laremy Tunsil Restructures Contract with Commanders to Free Up $14.4M in 2025 Cap Space

Per Spotrac, the Commanders are restructuring LT Laremy Tunsil‘s contract by converting $18 million of his base salary into a bonus and adding three void years.
Washington created $14.4 million in 2025 cap space, according to Spotrac.
Tunsil, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2016. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $12,457,650 rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $2,148,771 for the 2019 season when the Dolphins picked up his fifth-year option.
The Dolphins traded Tunsil to the Texans in 2019 and he later agreed to a three-year, $66 million contract with Houston that included $50 million guaranteed. He re-signed to a three-year, $75 million extension in March of 2022.
Tunsil was due base salaries of $20.95 million in each of the final two years of his deal. He was traded to Washington this offseason with a 2025 fourth-round pick for a 2025 third-round pick, a 2025 seventh-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick.
In 2024, Tunsil appeared in all 17 games for the Texans at left tackle. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 19 offensive tackle out of 77 qualifying players.
In 2025, Tunsil has appeared in one game for the Commanders and made one start at left tackle.
