Lions make some insane moves that are likely to come with some insane first-time starts and first-time debuts against the Chiefs
The Detroit Lions will take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, and before thye got on the plane to go to Kansas City, the Lions have made a few roster adjustments. Here's what they did:
Signed S Erick Hallett, DL Quinton Jefferson, and CB Nick Whiteside to the Active Roster from the Practice Squad
Hallet has been with the Lions since last season, and we've seen him in the preseason, but he's never played a regular-season game before. With Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch both being game-time decisions, this seems like a precautionary move to get ready for that.
Whiteside had a really nice summer for the Lions, and there was a widely held belief that he was going to make the 53-man roster, but that didn't wind up happening. It was even more interesting that the Lions didn't initially have him on thier practice squad either. Now he's back and Detroit is adding him to the main roster, and Sunday's game will be his first regular-season game since 2023, when he was with the Commanders.
Quinton Jefferson is a big one because we might see him get some real reps going forward. Nothing crazy, but maybe in the 10-15 region, where he can be both a good run stopper and a solid pass rusher. Something he's shown plenty of in his career.
Elevated CB Arthur Maulet and OL Devin Cochran from the Practice Squad to the Active/Inactive list
This is going to be a very interesting one because with Avonte Maddox out and Brian Branch potentially out, the Lions are left with Maulet, who just got here on Tuesday, to be their starting slot corner. He's got plenty of experience. He's been in the league since 2017 and started games in 2023, but this is a crazy turnaround.
Cochran is going to be Dan Skipper's backup now that both Taylor Decker and Giovanni Manu will be out for this game.
Placed OL Giovanni Manu on Reserve/Injured
Manu is going to be out for a while. At least for four games as he heads to the IR. At this time, we don't really know what he injury is other than it's a knee injury. We'll keep you updated on that when more information comes in.
Waived OL Kingsley Eguakun and DL Chris Smith
It feels safe to assume that both will clear waivers and both will be brought back on the Lions' practice squad on Monday or Tuesday.
Alex Bregman Addresses Speculation, Speaks Out About Considering Contract Extension After the 2025 Season with Houston Astros

Houston Astros star Alex Bregman has addressed the ongoing speculation about his future with the team, confirming that he is actively considering a contract extension after the 2025 season. The third baseman, who has been a key figure in the Astros' success, expressed his excitement about the possibility of continuing his career in Houston while also acknowledging the importance of evaluating his options.
“I’m focused on finishing strong this season and giving everything I have to the team,” Bregman said. “The idea of a contract extension is definitely on my mind, but right now, it’s about staying focused on the game and helping the team win. We’ll see what the future holds.”
Bregman, who has been with the Astros since 2016, has established himself as one of the top players in the league and has been a crucial part of the team’s championship successes. With his current contract set to expire after the 2025 season, both Bregman and the Astros organization are expected to have discussions regarding his long-term future with the team.
“I’ve had an amazing experience with the Astros, and I love playing here,” Bregman added. “But I’ll take the time to really think through all the options when the time comes. Right now, I’m just focused on helping this team win another title.”
As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Bregman and the potential for an extension that could keep him in Houston for many more years to come.
