‘RHOSLC’ Star Mary Cosby Gives a Vulnerable Update on Her Son

“The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” has become a fan-favorite franchise, in part, due to Mary Cosby. Now, ahead of the show’s sixth season premiere, the reality star is sharing a powerful update about her son, Robert Cosby Jr., and his journey to sobriety.
As fans know, Cosby and her son became vulnerable during season five of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” about his battles with addiction. This robust conversation between a mother and her son garnered considerable support and compassion from fans, as well as her RHOSLC co-stars.
Cosby Says Her Son Has a Difficult Journey
Cosby recently appeared on the “Reality Checked” podcast with Dorinda Medley to promote “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.” During the episode, she provided an update on her son’s progress toward sobriety.
“He’s doing as good as he can,” said Cosby. She continued, “It’s his journey. I can’t make… I told him, ‘If you don’t make your mind up, then this is all for nothing.'” Cosby then said, “It takes a made-up mind to do and execute whatever you are trying to do.”
She went on, “I can’t make it up for him. I can just only push him, encourage him, and love him. And that’s what I’m doing. That’s kind of where we are, but he’s still on that road, and it’s a hardcore road.” Cosby added, “It’s tough to watch as a mom. It’s hurtful to see his dad, most of the time, devastated.”
Cosby then stated that she has hope for her son. She also said that her son has not only the ability, but also the tools needed to live a sober life. Cosby concluded, “He just needs to make up his mind.”
She Previously Discussed the Support She Received
Cosby has been vocal about how difficult it was to open up on camera about her son’s struggles with sobriety. Still, she also understood that it was a meaningful conversation to have, as many families are dealing with similar topics.
Regarding the support she has received, Cosby told Vulture, “I heard from all of [the cast] — I even heard from Britani [Bateman].” She continued, “Even Rihanna reached out to me!” Cosby then said, “I was happy I did it after I received the way the people accepted it and loved it.”
Season six of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” premieres on September 16 on Bravo.
