Justin Jefferson’s 123-Yard Performance Keeps Vikings’ Playoff Hopes Alive in London Victory
It was a sluggish day at the office for the Minnesota Vikings offense in their London game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, but, once again, this team found a way to win. Minnesota's defense did its part, but that's hardly surprising. The offense needed to do theirs, and it took until late in the game for them to do just that.
On the eventual game-winning drive that spanned 10 plays and 80 yards and chewed up over two and a half minutes of clock time, Carson Wentz dropped back to pass and sent a 50/50 ball Justin Jefferson's way.
As Vikings fans have grown used to seeing, Jefferson is going to win those balls more often than not and did so again on Sunday, hauling in the pass and setting Minnesota up on the Browns' 27-yard line with a little over a minute to go in regulation.
At this point in the game, Minnesota was down by a field goal, so they needed to at least match that if they didn't want to lose their first-ever game in London.
Jefferson's reception helped them get closer, and then we all know what happened next. Five plays later, Wentz hit Jordan Addison in the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.
Minnesota Vikings star WR Justin Jefferson had himself a day in Week 5 win over the Cleveland Browns in London
It has to be frustrating for Jefferson to have such a struggling offense around him, but his numbers were phenomenal on Sunday. The former first-round pick had seven catches for 123 yards, including that 21-yard reception late in the fourth quarter that helped set up the eventual game-winning score.
That 21-yard reception wasn't even Jefferson's longest of the day, though. The LSU product had a 38-yard grab earlier in the game, proving that he was doing exactly what this team pays him to do, which is make big plays.
Without Jefferson's heroics, the Vikings would have dropped to 2-3 with a date with the Philadelphia Eagles coming up after their Week 6 bye. That'd likely mean they'd be 2-4, and that's a tough hole to climb out of.
Jefferson has still been playing well despite Minnesota's frustrations at quarterback this season (and the offensive line issues), and this game proved just that.
Hopefully, they can get him the ball even more because the fact that he went for over 120 yards when the offense, as a whole, looked abysmal, shows just how good the Vikings' former first-rounder really is. Good things happen when you send the ball Justin Jefferson's way.
