Jets HC Aaron Glenn sends strong message about 0-2 start
On Thursday, New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams revealed that he and his teammates "made a pact as a defense" that their performance in the 30-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 "will never happen again."
With his team at 0-2, first-year Jets head coach Aaron Glenn claimed members of the roster have remained positive heading into Sunday's game against the 2-0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Sky is "not falling" for winless Jets
"Listen, our guys are upbeat and motivated," Glenn explained, per the Associated Press' Dennis Waszak Jr. "Here's what they do know: It was Week 2 and the sky's not falling. As much as we all think it is, as much as all the outside noise, as much as you guys write about that, the sky's not falling."
The Jets' defense has failed to live up to expectations through the season's first two weeks, including in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to ESPN stats, Gang Green entered Friday ranked 30th in the NFL in opponent points scored per game (32) and 23rd in yards surrendered per contest (337).
"I've been a part of that situation before, so our guys can rely on that," Glenn said about the Jets' record. "A lot of our coaches have been a part of that situation before, and they can rely on that. And some of these players have, too. So, we're looking forward to moving on. And at 0-2, the sky's not falling."
Aaron Glenn responds to Quinnen Williams' comments
On Thursday, Williams added that "the standard has to come to life that coach AG has been preaching" following back-to-back defeats.
"That's how it's supposed to be," Glenn said in response to Williams' fiery comments. "In my opinion, you take every game personal. You find something within each game to figure out how you can take it personal. ... So when you give up the yards that we've given up, I mean, you should look within yourself and figure out what can I do better, myself individually, and then us as a team to make sure it doesn't happen again? "And I'm not surprised, just the type of player he is. I'm not surprised he said something like that."
Jets starting quarterback Justin Fields is sidelined while in the concussion protocol, meaning 36-year-old Tyrod Taylor will be under center at Tampa Bay's Raymond James Stadium. Taylor could be an upgrade over what Fields gave the Jets in Week 2.
As of Friday afternoon, ESPN BET had the Jets as 6.5-point road underdogs against the Bucs.
Herm Edwards Says Browns QB Reminds Him Of Brian Sipe

The Cleveland Browns had a strange offseason that featured what may have been the NFL’s first four-man quarterback competition, which ultimately resulted in Joe Flacco winning the starting role due to his comfort level in the offense and his big arm.
Flacco has the offense moving, but the Browns are 0-2 largely due to his turnovers.
Rookie Dillon Gabriel came on in relief of Flacco in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens and the third-round pick from the 2025 NFL Draft has impressed former NFL head coach Herm Edwards.
“I said this when they drafted this guy. He reminds me of Brian Sipe,” Edwards said.

Edwards said he believes the Browns could think about starting Gabriel if they drop to 0-3 as expected after facing the Green Bay Packers.
Gabriel threw his first NFL touchdown against the Ravens and completed all three of his pass attempts for 19 yards.
Cleveland is heading into a difficult matchup with Green Bay, which has looked like the best team in the NFL through two weeks after convincingly defeating the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders.
Flacco hasn’t started a full regular season of games since 2017, so it isn’t reasonable to expect him to do it at 40 years old.
Cleveland needs to figure out if Gabriel can be the long-term solution at quarterback ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, and if the losses continue to pile up this season, all signs would point to him getting that chance once the schedule eases up.
That would give the organization a better evaluation of his abilities.
