Greg Newsome’s Emotional Goodbye After Browns Trade
The Cleveland Browns traded Greg Newsome to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday night, moving on from the former first-round pick.
The Browns sent Newsome and a sixth-round pick to the Jaguars in exchange for cornerback Tyson Campbell and a seventh-round pick. The move was largely financially motivated.
Newsome is entering the final year of his rookie contract and will be due a sizable extension if re-signed. Campbell remains under team control through 2028 on a team-friendly deal for the Browns.
After the trade was announced, Newsome took to social media to bid goodbye to Cleveland.
“Love Cleveland,” Newsome said. “It’s been real.”
Greg Newsome Stepped Up for Browns Defense
Newsome was selected by the Browns with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Northwestern. He started 47 games over five seasons in Cleveland. His tenure with the team has been an up-and-down one, often defined by his role within a deep cornerback group that also featured Denzel Ward and Martin Emerson Jr.
While Newsome was primarily used as the nickelback in recent years, Emerson’s season-ending injury during training camp thrust him back into a starting role. The former first-round pick responded well, providing steady coverage and helping anchor one of the league’s top defensive units.
The move involving Newsome is the second significant trade between the Browns and Jaguars since the NFL Draft. Cleveland previously traded the No. 2 overall pick to Jacksonville in exchange for the No. 5 selection and the Jaguars’ 2026 first-rounder — a move that allowed Jacksonville to draft standout two-way Heisman-winner Travis Hunter.
The Browns have remained busy on the trade front in recent weeks. They acquired offensive tackle Cam Robinson from the Texans on Sept. 29. They also sent veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals in a rare intra-division trade this week.
Browns Were Willing to Extend Greg Newsome
Seeing more time on the field in a contract year was big for Newsome. The former first-round pick embraced the opportunity and made it clear he wanted to remain in Cleveland long term, even amid the team’s lackluster expectations. After battling injuries in his first four seasons, Newsome focused on being more durable and dependable.
“This is the place that drafted me and I do think we’re closer (to winning) than what people think, honestly,” Newsome said during training camp. “A lot of people are saying there’s no way, but I think we are. I definitely would like to sign long term, but there’s still that thing that in order to help this team, I’ve got to be on the field a little more.”
The Browns were also open to extending Newsome, per Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. However, the trade opportunity proved too good to pass up.
“The Browns would’ve been happy to extend Newsome — and he told cleveland.com at the Super Bowl in February that he wanted to stay as long as he got more playing time — but the trade opportunity popped up and became a good alternative for their short and long-term planning,” Cabot reported.
The Browns face the Steelers this week on the road.
BREAKING NEWS: Aaron Rodgers Invests $8.6 Million to Transform a House in Pittsburgh Into a Shelter for Homeless Youth After...

In a move that has sent shockwaves through both the sports and philanthropic communities, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has announced an incredible $8.6 million investment to transform a house in Pittsburgh into a shelter for homeless youth. Known for his leadership and powerful presence on the field, Rodgers is proving that his influence extends well beyond football, as he embarks on a new mission to uplift the city’s most vulnerable young people.
Rodgers’ decision to invest in this cause comes at a time when homelessness, particularly among youth, is becoming an increasingly pressing issue in Pittsburgh. The shelter, which will be renovated using the full extent of Rodgers’ investment, will not only provide these young individuals with a safe space but also offer resources for educational programs, career training, and emotional support. Rodgers himself spoke about the project, saying, “These kids deserve a shot at a better future. I want to provide them with the resources to succeed and rise above their circumstances.”
Pittsburgh has long been a city known for its blue-collar work ethic and sense of community, but it’s also struggling with the effects of a growing homeless population. Rodgers’ shelter will offer more than just a roof over the heads of these youth; it will serve as a hub for rebuilding their futures. The facility will include educational classes, job-readiness programs, and mentoring opportunities, all aimed at giving young people the tools they need to break free from the cycle of homelessness.
This investment comes as part of Rodgers’ broader commitment to giving back to the communities that have supported him throughout his illustrious career. His philanthropic efforts have always been a big part of who he is, but this shelter for homeless youth in Pittsburgh is his most ambitious project to date. “I feel blessed to be in a position where I can help,” Rodgers shared. “If I can make a difference in just one person’s life, then I’ll feel like I’ve done something meaningful.”
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin praised Rodgers’ generosity, saying, “Aaron has always been a leader, not just on the field but in every community he’s a part of. This initiative is just another example of his character and the kind of person he is. We’re incredibly proud of him.”
Rodgers’ teammates have rallied behind him, expressing admiration for the quarterback’s selflessness and his desire to make a real difference in the lives of Pittsburgh’s youth. His $8.6 million investment is set to transform the lives of many young people, giving them the chance to rebuild their lives and pursue brighter futures.
As Rodgers continues to lead the Steelers toward success on the field, his off-field legacy is growing as well. The shelter for homeless youth will stand as a lasting testament to his commitment to making a positive impact on the community. With this $8.6 million donation, Aaron Rodgers is showing that greatness isn’t just measured in championships—it’s also defined by the lives you touch along the way.
