Wide receiver Jalen Reagor didn’t pan out in two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He wasn’t able to carve out a role with the Minnesota Vikings or New England Patriots either.
This preseason, Reagor might experience a disappointing end to his Chargers tenure next.
Bleacher Report Gary Davenport included the former first-round pick on his list of “one player each NFL team should cut” prior to the 2025 regular season.
“Five years into his NFL career, Jalen Reagor’s biggest claim to fame is that he was quite possibly the dumbest pick Howie Roseman has made, going 21st overall to the Philadelphia Eagles just before the Minnesota Vikings drafted Justin Jefferson,” wrote Davenport.
“Now, Reagor likely finds himself on the wrong side of final cuts in Los Angeles, despite drawing positive reviews in training camp. The reason? The return of Keenan Allen to the Chargers.”
The Chargers signed Keenan Allen to a one-year, $8.52 million contract on August 5. Los Angeles added Allen after fellow veteran receiver Mike Williams surprisingly retired during July. But bringing back Allen could still be a sign the Chargers don’t expect a lot from Reagor.
The Eagles selected Reagor at No. 21 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He posted 65 catches, 695 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 28 games for the Eagles.
Philadelphia traded Reagor to the Vikings prior to the NFL roster cutdown day in 2022. The Eagles received a 2023 seventh-rounder and conditional 2024 fourth-round pick in the exchange.
Could Chargers Cut WR Jalen Reagor?
The former first-round pick played for the Chargers last season. So, he’s not trying to make their roster for the first time.
But his 2024 campaign was not particularly noteworthy. Reagor posted just seven catches for 100 yards on 12 target in eight games.
Davenport sees Reagor receiving another opportunity to play in 2025. But he strongly suggested it will come somewhere other than Los Angeles.
“It’s not like Reagor did a lot in his first year in Los Angeles to justify being kept, he had seven catches for 100 yards in 2024,” Davenport wrote. “Over the last three years, he has just one touchdown catch and didn’t surpass 150 receiving yards on three different teams.
“Someone will roll the dice again on a 26-year-old former Round 1 pick. But if Reagor plays in 2025, it will be for his fourth team in as many seasons.”
Reagor a Disappointing Pick for the Eagles
Reagor’s inclusion on Davenport’s list was a reminder again of how disappointing the receiver was as a first-round pick for Philadelphia.
At TCU, he averaged 15.2 yards per catch in 39 career college games. He also had 2,248 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns.
His best season at TCU came in 2018 when he had 72 receptions, 1,061 receiving yards and five touchdowns. During his final college campaign, Reagor posted 43 catches, 611 receiving yards and five scores.
But with the Eagles, he averaged 10.9 yards per catch and only scored three times in 28 games.
In the 2020 NFL Draft, Reagor was the fourth wide receiver off the draft board. Only Henry Ruggs III, Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb went ahead of him in that draft class.
More than twice as many receivers were ahead of Reagor on the Chargers’ Week 2 preseason depth chart. The team had Reagor listed as a fourth-team receiver along with Brenden Rice, Luke Grimm and Dalevon Campbell.
