Ex-Chiefs Super Bowl Champion Starter Appears to Retire in Cryptic Post
Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland turned up in the news just after Week 4, as the former Super Bowl champion starter posted a long and cryptic social media message about his career and life that led many to believe he was officially announcing his retirement on September 29.
Along with a video compilation of his career highlights and 2018 injury recovery, Breeland shared the following message with followers:
Have u ever had millions in ur hand for it to be snatch away from you for something as simple as and injury…. I have. Set to change the financial dynamic of my family. For it to be snatched back due to injury overseas foot, possibly being amputated I went from signing a deal with Carolina Panthers too on the couch waiting for a chance to play again. To loseing my grandmother months before, to get to the chance to play for the Green Bay Packers, they gave me a chance but nobody else would And I’m thankful because it put me on a path to accomplish something great but then again I still couldn’t get out of my own way. To losing my childhood best friend all in the same year.. I bounced back in less time I was given to recover. Climb myself back to be able to play again. To get to the opportunity to play for the Kansas City Chiefs as a player I did everything right but you know what they say if you do the same thing you get the same results. I fix myself as a player, but I didn’t fix myself as a person and continue to make bonehead mistakes. I did what I had to do on the field. I contribute what I had to contribute to to win a Super Bowl with the Chiefs and yet I still had those devastated moments at the height of my career setting to get back to the table to get another big payday And get arrested. It was a misunderstanding. They came for a call for others smoking in the store and I got caught in the crossfire Someone would say profiling. but it happened and I had to deal with it cost me another major moment in my life at the height of my career I tried to let the kids know that ones mistake. Don’t define who it is as a person, but also that one have to dig deep inside and really fix themselves to prove that. I did and I didn’t. I mask things and it caught up to me. I became a Journie man going from team to team to a point I couldn’t find a home to get that security. A Look Back at Bashaud Breeland’s Chiefs & NFL Career
Although Breeland never officially retired from the NFL, he has not appeared in a regular season game since 2021.
Breeland started a total of 32 games (33 appearances) with the Chiefs from 2019 through the 2020 playoffs, registering 4 regular season interceptions and 17 pass breakups. He also intercepted former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in Super Bowl LIV, recording 5 pass breakups in his 6 total KC playoff outings.
Breeland’s last game with the Chiefs was Super Bowl LV, in which Kansas City lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He joined the Minnesota Vikings for one final season in 2021, but spent the bulk of his career with Washington before rebooting it with the Green Bay Packers and Chiefs.
Breeland’s Non-Football Injury That Led to a Failed Physical
Within the post, Breeland talks about how he lost a $24 million contract with $11 million in guarantees due to an unfortunate non-football injury and failed physical.
The Panthers were the franchise that offered Breeland the three-year contract in 2018, but they voided the deal after “Breeland suffered a cut on his foot while traveling to the Dominican Republic that offseason” — according to A-to-Z Sports Kansas City reporter Charles Goldman.
“The infection was so severe that Breeland says amputation was a possibility,” Goldman noted.
Breeland includes the nasty foot/heel injury in his video compilation, as it was a major part of his NFL story. Not just the injury, but coming back from it to help win a championship.
Jets RB Braelon Allen Likely Headed to IR with MCL Sprain
The Jets got some news today about running back Braelon Allen and it appears likely he’ll be heading to injured reserve where he’ll miss several weeks with a sprained MCL. The injury took place on a kick return during last night’s 27-21 loss to the Dolphins.

The Jets will likely look to add a back to take his place and could go the veteran route, but should also consider poaching rookie Donovan Edwards off of the Washington Commanders practice squad. Edwards had an impressive preseason with Gang Green but was squeezed out due to the running back room being fully stocked.
