Dallas Cowboys Begin Evaluating Shavon Revel and Caelan Carson for Defensive Help
Posted September 30, 2025
Coming into the season, the Cowboys thought they’d done enough to secure a deep enough group in the secondary, a group that could be headlined by DaRon Bland and Trevon Diggs
It has not quite worked out that way. Bland was injured in Week 1 and only just returned to action, Diggs has been so-so, Elam has been disappointing and both Carson (knee injury in camp) and Revel (coming back from ACL surgery in college) have yet to play.
Couple the lack of depth with a poor pass-rush up front, and the defensive backs have been a harried unit this season, as Dallas has given up 1,189 yards of passing through three weeks, last in the
Cowboys will begin evaluating how quickly they can get those players back, and early indications are that Carson is ready to go, but Revel might need more time.
The paper reported that Carson, “feels physically ready to return,” and only need clearance from the
Cowboys to get back on the practice field, which could happen on Tuesday.
Revel, though, might not be ready to take the field this week. He told the DMN he still needs another scan to check on the progress of his rehab before he can be cleared, and because he has not played competitive football in more than a year, just returning to practice won’t be enough to warrant putting him into games.
Cowboys Weighing Pros and Cons of Returns
Coach Brian Schottenheimer is not necessarily counting on players to return, but it is, at least, on the table. Good news for a defense still in need of depth.
“We’re going to talk about that probably into tonight and into tomorrow. I think there’s a chance with a couple of guys,” Schottenheimer said.
“I won’t share with you who, but those conversations are a little bit early for us. We just kind of finished up the game, and now that we start getting ready for preparing for the
Jets, we’ll have a better idea. But there’s a chance that you could see a little bit of movement.”
HEARTWARMING STORY: Alvin Kamara Launches "Puppy Haven" Sanctuary for Stray Dogs in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS — In a world where athletes are often defined by their on-field performances, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is making headlines for something far more impactful than any touchdown or highlight: his heartfelt commitment to helping stray dogs.
On September 29, Kamara opened the doors of “Puppy Haven,” a $5 million sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating homeless dogs in New Orleans. The sanctuary aims to provide stray dogs with the care, shelter, and love they desperately need. "There are so many dogs left on the streets, uncared for, and without hope," Kamara said during the grand opening. "They deserve to be protected, healed, and given a home."
Located in the heart of the city, Puppy Haven will offer a safe haven for dogs, featuring top-tier facilities including 24/7 veterinary services, a spay/neuter program, and recovery areas where dogs can heal both physically and emotionally. The sanctuary is designed to create a safe environment for animals in need, offering not only shelter but the hope of finding a loving family.
The mission of Puppy Haven goes beyond just providing shelter. Kamara has vowed to ensure the dogs receive proper medical attention, socialization, and rehabilitation before being rehomed. “This isn’t just about saving lives; it’s about restoring dignity to these animals. They deserve to feel loved and wanted,” Kamara said, visibly emotional during the opening ceremony.
While the sanctuary was built with a significant investment, the real value lies in the difference it will make in the lives of countless stray dogs. The initiative is a testament to Kamara’s deep compassion and commitment to his community. “I’ve always believed in using my platform for good,” he continued. “The biggest victory I can have isn’t in a game, it’s in seeing these little creatures find hope again.”
The Puppy Haven sanctuary has already received overwhelming support from animal lovers across New Orleans and beyond. The local community, including fellow Saints players and fans, have rallied behind the cause, donating funds, supplies, and their time. The grand opening event also featured a series of adoption drives and partnerships with local animal rescue groups, helping to spread awareness of the sanctuary’s mission.
Kamara is no stranger to giving back, having been involved in various charitable endeavors over the years. However, this new chapter in his life marks a significant turning point as he continues to channel his passion for helping those in need — both human and animal alike.
“The work is just beginning,” Kamara added. “This is just the start. There are so many more animals who need us, and I plan on doing everything I can to make sure they get the care and love they deserve.”
As Puppy Haven opens its doors, Kamara has set an example that transcends sports. In a world often focused on personal achievements and trophies, Kamara has shown that the true victories lie in making a real, lasting difference in the lives of others. For the strays of New Orleans, the real win is the hope of a second chance, and Alvin Kamara is leading the way to that brighter future.
