Chiefs' Andy Reid Scouts Seahawks Brutal Beatdown: 'A Lot To Learn'
The Kansas City Chiefs' 33-16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, while a preseason game, will give head coach Andy Reid and his staff plenty to think about.
Granted, how much of the playbook both sides of the ball reveal is next to nothing at this time of year, but the ease with which the Seahawks were able to rush the football would be concerning.
In total, 268 rushing yards from Seattle tells the tale, with the defense unable to halt the momentum, while the offense, initially early, looked efficient with Gardner Minshew under center.
And for Reid, he's grateful for yet another opportunity to evaluate his roster.
“This is a good place to get some of our young guys some reps here,” Reid said. “They always have good crowds, and it's a great environment out here to see what you've got. So a lot of these guys are battling to make the team, and we were able to get them in there so we can evaluate them.
"I thought this game here was most important. The ones will get a little bit more time next week as we go forward. Again, there always some good things, but there's a lot of things we can learn from in here, too.”
For most, the scoreline and stats from a preseason game can be taken with a grain of salt, given that the main priority of these games is to evaluate the personnel, so who saw their stocks rise and who saw them fall will become clear as we move on.
But running back Brashard Smith looked explosive, rushing for 22 yards on three carries, tight end Robert Tonyan (five rec, 41 yards, one touchdown) where the pick of the bunch.
So the Chiefs will look at the film, and move forward to the third and final preseason game, where Reid stated the Chiefs' starters will get more of a look in.
But in Seattle? Yeah, it was a brutal beatdown.
