Browns QB Dillon Gabriel Put on Blast After Blowing Out Dolphins

The Cleveland Browns scored a much-needed 31-6 blowout victory against the Miami Dolphins but quarterback Dillon Gabriel had little to do with it.

Gabriel was not called upon to do much during the lopsided victory, with the Browns making big plays on defense and with the running game. Cleveland forced four turnovers and rookie running back Quinshon Judkins rumbled for three touchdowns.

It was a rainy day in Cleveland and the Browns leaned on the right parts of their team to notch the big win. But the few times Gabriel’s number was called, he didn’t look sharp. He finished the matchup with 116 yards on 13-of-18 passing. He didn’t eclipse 100 yards until late in the fourth quarter.

“Dillon Gabriel can give y’all 120 passing yards for the day with 0 tds and you (expletive) swear he’s NFL ready,” one fan said.

“Dillon Gabriel missed a wide open receiver for a TD at the red zone because he’s too short and can’t see over the offensive line. This is the guy Stefanski says is better than Shedeur!”

Browns Took Dillon Gabriel Off Field on Scoring Plays

The Browns had struggled in the red zone but went with a simpler approach against the Dolphins. The team took Gabriel out of the game inside the 10-yard line, going to the wildcat with Judkins taking the direct snap.

“Don’t talk to me about no damn Dillon Gabriel. They got in the wildcat as soon as they got in the red zone and scored with Judkins instead of trusting him with the ball,”

Gabriel had multiple passes that were nearly intercepted, as well as some balls that were simply off target. He had one pass that just slipped through a defender’s hands and another interception called back by a penalty.

“I’m not saying Shedeur is an NFL QB, but I am saying that Dillon Gabriel sure as hell isn’t,” a fan said.

“A win is a win but the Browns offense won’t beat a good team with Dillon Gabriel at QB,”

Calls for Browns to Start Shedeur Sanders Remain

Regardless of the circumstances, Gabriel will need to start delivering results if he hopes to keep his job under center. The calls for Sanders aren’t fading — they’re only getting louder.

Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com believes that Sanders — a fifth-round pick — will eventually get his shot this season.

“Myles Garrett also revealed recently that he sees Sanders working with Kevin Stefanski in his office in the early morning hours, which means he’s putting in the extra work. It’s showing up on the practice field, and the Browns are eager to see what he can do this season when the time comes,”

Cabot said. “The Browns will give Dillon Gabriel a decent on-ramp, but there will probably come a time in the second half of the season where the Browns will want to see Sanders play. They’re confident he’ll be ready.”

The Browns head to New England next week to take on the Patriots in a game that should be a better measuring stick for Cleveland. The Patriots have won four games in a row.
