Browns Make Trade And Shut Down Idea Of Sabotaging Shedeur Sanders
One of the big storylines to come out of the Cleveland Browns' preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams was Shedeur Sanders and the opportunity, or lack thereof that he got in the game.
With the chance for Sanders to go back into the game late in the fourth quarter, having played a little in the third (and not well, mind you), some thought it would be a good learning experience for Sanders to lead that drive.
But the Browns chose veteran Tyler Huntley...who was then released shortly after.
This led to some thinking that Cleveland is trying to sabotage Sanders and his development, given that he did get chances early in the preseason, and now he's fighting for scraps.
But head coach Kevin Stefanski, as we all expected, rebuffed the notion.
“I’m committed to his development, just like all of our rookies,” Stefanski said. “We’ll continue to focus on getting our guys better. That’s what we will stay committed to, and that’s what’s important to me.”
So, it will be interesting to see how things play out over the coming days with roster cuts looming, and there are some wh o want Sanders out of Cleveland, given the way he's been treated, plus the number of quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart.
Stefanski stated he is committed to Sanders' development, but the actions in the fourth quarter prove otherwise. The franchise knows what Huntley is, he's a known commodity.
So why give him that chance over a player you need to evaluate?
That's the question everyone is trying to answer. ... but while they're stuck on that, the Browns issued another response: They just traded Kenny Pickett to the Raiders, meaning Shedeur just jumped up to the No. 3 slot behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel without having done a thing.
So maybe the Browns have a plan here. Maybe.
