Browns Insider Says Shedeur Sanders Won't Last the Season, Predicts Possible Trade
Posted September 26, 2025
NFL insider Tony Rizzo doesn’t expect Shedeur Sanders to last the entire season with the Cleveland Browns.
Cleveland took Sanders in the fifth round, and he has been the emergency third-string quarterback to begin the season. With Sanders not seeing the field and also being behind rookie Dillon Gabriel, his path to playing time is murky.
With that, Browns insider Tony Rizzo expects Cleveland to trade Sanders before the trade deadline to get an asset back.
“I don’t (think Sanders plays this season),” Rizzo said on
ESPN Cleveland. “In fact, I could see, I don’t know when is the trade deadline? You know what, Browns see Shedeur as an asset, maybe they cash in on the asset. Maybe they get a fifth-round pick or a fourth-round pick for a quarterback, yeah.”
Although the Browns just drafted him, perhaps Cleveland would flip Sanders for an asset if they don’t feel like he will contribute to playing time.
Rizzo believes a team could trade a mid-round pick for Sanders to add depth to the quarterback room, especially if there is an injury.
But, given that Sanders fell in the draft, it’s uncertain if another team would be interested in trading for him this season.
Sanders Believes He Can Play Right Now
Sanders has yet to get into NFL game action this season, but he’s confident he can play.
The rookie quarterback is confident in his skills, as he believes he is better than some starting quarterbacks right now.
“I know for sure, I know if you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that,” Sanders
Although Sanders is third on the quarterback depth chart, he says he isn’t thinking about that. Instead, he’s just focusing on getting better so when the time comes, he is prepared.
“I don’t think playing or not playing is in my hands,” Sanders said. “If things happen, things pan out where I play, then I’ll be out there and I’ll be ready to play. I’m ready to play right now.”
Sanders was selected 144th overall.
Browns Confident in Flacco
Despite Cleveland’s offensive struggles, the Browns are remaining with Flacco as the starting quarterback.
Ahead of Week 4, Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees remains confident in the veteran. But, he knows Flacco needs to get more comfortable with the offense to truly take it to the next level.
“Just got to get him comfortable, like, probably felt comfortable early a couple weeks ago. Haven’t been able to get back into rhythm again,” Rees said. “Our job as coach is to get him feeling comfortable and confident and, we’ve been working at that. He’s not a guy that gets real up and down, so you wouldn’t sense any of that, but just in the course of the game, allowing him to feel confident that he can rip it and really that’s our job as coaching staff to make sure that we get him there.”
Flacco has thrown for 631 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions.
Jets finally say what fans have been begging to hear about Mason Taylor
The New York Jets have an offense that is starved for playmakers. Beyond Garrett Wilson — and Breece Hall on his best days — there’s very little in the way of explosiveness or true difference-making ability.
That's partially why the team decided to use a second-round pick in this year's draft to select LSU tight end Mason Taylor. The Jets had high expectations for Taylor entering the 2025 season, even given the typical rookie growing pains associated with the tight end position.
Taylor has played a significant role in the Jets' offense over the first three weeks of the season, but the rookie tight end has just six catches and 43 yards to show for it.
On Thursday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn spoke to reporters and made it clear that the team intends to place a greater emphasis on getting him more involved with the offense moving forward.
"We want to do everything we can to get Mason Taylor more involved. He's a dynamic player for us. He's a guy that we all recognize needs to get the ball more."

Jets admit Mason Taylor 'needs to get the ball more'
The Jets have been waiting for a viable second option in the passing game to emerge behind Wilson this season, and through three weeks, that hasn't happened. In fact, Taylor is actually third on the team in catches behind Wilson (21) and Hall (8).
Taylor's lack of contributions in the passing game hasn't been due to a lack of playing time. The 21-year-old has played nearly 80% of the Jets' offense snaps this season, although he's caught more than one pass in just one game so far.
The more disappointing reality is that Taylor has been used almost exclusively as a check-down target. His only reception of more than 10 yards came on his very first NFL catch — a 20-yard grab back in Week 1.
The Jets did get Taylor a bit more involved in the offense in Week 3, as he hauled in a career-high four passes on six targets, but he finished with just 18 total yards. Of course, a large part of the issue has been the Jets' quarterbacks.
Outside of Justin Fields' excellent Week 1 performance, the Jets have not exactly gotten very good quarterback play this season. Both Fields and Tyrod Taylor have spent the last two weeks missing open receivers, and in some cases, not even pulling the trigger on throws that were there.
On Taylor's backbreaking pick-six this past Sunday, his rookie tight end was wide open over the middle of the field. The opportunities have been there for Mason Taylor to make an impact — the Jets' quarterbacks haven't been able to get him the ball.
It seems clear, though, that Glenn and the Jets want to make a concerted effort to get him more involved moving forward. That should be good news for both Mason Taylor fantasy owners and the Jets' offense as a whole.
