The Tennessee Titans hired head coach Brian Callahan last offseason to help them field a more explosive offense. The 2024 results were disastrous, with quarterbacks Will Levis and Mason Rudolph derailing the offense at every turn. With rookie No. 1 overall quarterback Cam Ward now under center, it's time for the Titans to start producing explosive plays against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3.
They haven't done so for two weeks. The 0-2 Titans currently rank 32nd in passing (102.5/contest) and 30th in scoring (15.5), having managed one touchdown in two contests, a highlight-reel effort by Ward. The rebuilding Titans opened the season against two high-end defenses, but the results need to start trending in a more appropriate direction.
There's a number of stats that make the Titans offense look downright depressing. They're currently the only offense in the NFL that hasn't produced a single play that gained 30-plus yards, per The 33rd Team. Coach Callahan needs to locate the explosives.
Titans HC Brian Callahan needs his offense to start producing explosive plays
The Titans' longest passing play gained 29 yards. It was an off-script creation by Ward on the third offensive play in Week 1, when he escaped a defender's grasp to flip the ball to Tony Pollard. Speaking of the run-game, their longest rush has been a pathetic 10 yards.
The Titans rank 31st in explosive play rate, per ESPN Data. Ward has been sacked on a league-leading 11 occasions. Essentially every advanced metric you can find on the Titans' offense paints a disastrous picture.
Offensive struggles to begin the season were expected. The Titans have a rookie quarterback and a new-look offensive line. They opened their 2025 schedule with consecutive games against playoff teams. The current results won't be considered understandable for much longer, though, and it's Callahan's responsibility to course-correct the numbers.
And he better do it fast.
