BREAKING: JETS HIT ROCK BOTTOM — JUSTIN FIELDS POSTS -10 PASSING YARDS IN HISTORICALLY BAD LOSS
just delivered one of the worst quarterback performances in New York Jets franchise history.
He finished 9-of-17 for 45 passing yards, and he was sacked nine times by the Denver Broncos defense. After the game, head coach Aaron Glenn was asked if Fields would remain his starting QB.
Media: “Is he going to be your quarterback next week?”
AG: “Come on, man, what kind of question is that?”
Media: “He did not have a good game. I mean, I think it’s a fair question.”
AG: “There was a number of guys that you know, sometimes the league is like this [up and down] and there are guys who have bad games. That doesn’t mean you bench him. You know better than that.”
Top Social Media Reactions to Fields’ Inept Performance
NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY posted on social media, “Justin Fields will start next week. Aaron Glenn [isn’t] considering a QB change at all. Said it’s not all on Fields. The Jets finished with -10 passing yards today.”

ESPN’s Rich Cimini said, “The Jets make the wrong kind of history: The -10 net pass yds is the worst in a game in Jets history and the worst by any team since the San Diego Chargers had -19 on Sept. 20, 1998 (against Chiefs), via ESPN Research.”

“The -10 passing yards are the worst in franchise history. The old mark was -1 against Dallas in 1975,” Brian Costello of the New York Post posted.

“The 82 total yards are the third-worst in Jets history. 2022 at Buffalo (53) and 1976 vs. Bengals (72) were worse,” Costello said on X previously Twitter.

The Jets Defense and Special Teams Played Well Enough
Gang Green secured their first takeaway of the season on the opening drive for the Broncos. They held Denver to 5-of-15 on third downs, 246 total net yards, and held them to just 13 total points.
On special teams, the Jets made huge plays.
Isaiah Williams had two kickoff returns for 59 yards and averaged 29.5 yards per return. Kene Nwangwu had three kickoff returns for 113 yards and averaged 37.7 yards per return.
In the punt return game, Williams was the Jets’ top guy. He fielded four punt returns for 32 yards and averaged 8.0 yards per return.
Placekicker Nick Folk delivered, going three-for-three from the field, scoring 9 of the Jets’ 11 points.
This Offense Has Completely Folded Like a Used Lawn Chair
There was complementary football provided by two of the three sides of the Jets with defense and special teams. However, the offense completely screwed the pooch.
Garrett Wilson finished with just three receptions for 13 receiving yards. Breece Hall had 22 carries for just 59 rushing yards.
Fields struggled to read the field, held onto the ball forever, and cost the Jets the game. If this is the level of quarterback play the team is going to receive all season, it’s fair to wonder how many games the Jets will win this year, if any at all.
The only other quarterback on the Jets’ 53-man roster is Tyrod Taylor. They also have undrafted free agent Brady Cook on the practice squad.
