Bills Make Critical QB Decision on Monday

The Buffalo Bills haven’t had much quarterback drama ever since they drafted Josh Allen in 2018. For a franchise that couldn’t find a legit starting quarterback for years, they are doing great these days.

Allen is coming off winning his first NFL Most Valuable Player of the Year Award, looking to repeat. The 29-year-old quarterback is heading into his eighth NFL season looking for his first Super Bowl appearance. While everyone knows who the Bills’ quarterback starter is, the backup job heading into camp was in question.

Mitch Trubisky Was The Bills’ No. 2 QB In 2024

Last year, the Bills’ backup quarterback was Mitchell Trubisky. The 31-year-old was the second overall pick by the Chicago Bears in 2017. After four years in Chicago, Trubisky headed to the Bills in 2021 to be Allen’s backup. In 2022, Trubisky joined the Pittsburgh Steelers for two seasons before heading back to Buffalo last year.

However, Buffalo didn’t seem to be confident in Trubisky being the No. 2 quarterback. This offseason, the team signed veteran quarterback Mike White. White was on the Bills’ practice squad last season. The team brought him back to compete with Trubisky for the backup job this summer.

There was some speculation that White would beat Trubisky out and the team would look to move the former first-round pick. But those plans never came together. White didn’t have a good preseason showing, leaving the team with a big decision on him on Monday.

White could always rejoin the Bills on the practice squad, but it looks like Trubisky has won the backup job.

While it doesn’t seem like the backup quarterback position is a big deal, it is. If something happens to Allen and he can’t go for a few games, then the backup will need to step up. Many teams that are playoff contenders lose their starting quarterback for a few weeks, and they end up falling short of the playoffs.

The Bills’ goal is to win the Super Bowl this season. Trubisky probably gives Buffalo the best chance to win if Allen were to miss some time.

Buffalo has one of the best chances to win the Super Bowl this season. Even though they haven’t gotten past the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs, it feels like this year can be different. The Chiefs have seemed to take a step back while the Bills have taken a step forward. Buffalo will have to watch out for the Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens, who also have been knocking on the door the last few years.

The Bills will be taking on the Ravens in Week 1, and that game could be a preview of the AFC Championship.
