49ers QB Mac Jones Gets Honest After Loss to Texans
Posted October 27, 2025
The San Francisco 49ers had a challenging afternoon in their 26-15 loss on October 26 to the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium. Moreover, it wasn’t the best game from quarterback Mac Jones.
Jones completed 19 of 32 passes for 193 passing yards while recording two touchdowns and one interception. The 49ers had difficulty putting points on the board as they went scoreless in the first and fourth quarters.
Moreover, it’s the second time in three games that San Francisco has failed to score 20 or more points. As a result, Jones didn’t hold back on what the team needs to do to improve heading into their next game against the New York Giants on November 2.
“Feel like we prepare a certain way for that, for the opening drives, and really like the way we do it here,” Jones told reporters postgame. “I’ve been in that situation far too many times where it just hasn’t gotten going, and today just wasn’t our day. So at the end of the day, you got 30 more minutes to play and did okay, but definitely a lot to clean up and just got to be more on our P’s and Q’s.”
Mac Jones Takes Responsibility for 49ers’ Offensive Showing
Jones took responsibility for the 49ers’ inability to get going on offense and for only recording 15 points over four quarters.
“Honestly, I didn’t think the operation was as clean as
what I would like it to be,“ Jones added. “It starts with the quarterback, pushing the tempo in practice, cranking up the noise, and really treating every day like a game. Getting in and out of the huddle, focusing on everything before the
ball’s even snapped. I can live with post-snap mistakes.
“If we have a drop or I don’t throw a good pass, that’s fine, but if I’m not looking at the right spot or people are running the wrong routes, then you have no chance. We know that [Kendrick Bourne] knows that. He and I have played a lot of football together, and so have the veteran guys on our offense. I feel like we have a veteran group, and like I said, we’ve got to have the want to get back in the ring and keep fighting.”
49ers to Face an Injury-Riddled Giants Team
Whether Brock Purdy or Jones starts at quarterback for Week 9 against the Giants, the 49ers hold the advantage. New York’s situation was worsened
when promising rookie running back Cam Skattebo was carted off midway through the second quarter of a 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on October 26 with a gruesome dislocation of his right ankle.
“Yeah, feel absolutely terrible for the young man,“ coach Brian Daboll said (h/t Jordan Raanan of ESPN). “Obviously, saw it looked bad. I know you feel for anybody on your team that goes down and has
a really bad injury and I feel … I know the players feel the same way about [ Skattebo].”
It was another tough setback for the Giants, who are already dealing with the loss of star wide receiver Malik Nabers, who was
sidelined last month with a torn ACL in his right knee.
