49ers Predicted to Be Ideal Landing Spot for Raiders Standout
On Monday, NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported that Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers requested a trade after the team and player couldn’t agree on a new contract.
So, where might Meyers end up? CBS Sports’ John Breech highlighted a few potential landing spots for the wide receiver. One of them is the San Francisco 49ers, who are dealing with injuries to their wideout group.
“It’s not just Brandon Aiyuk who’s likely going to be out for most of the first month of the season,” Breech said on CBS Sports HQ. “Jawan Jennings is also dealing with a calf injury and isn’t happy with his contract, so it’s unclear when he’ll be back on the field. Further down the 49ers’ depth chart, players like Jordan Watkins and Russell Gage are also dealing with injuries.”
49ers Are Desperate for Wide Receiver Help
As Breech stated, injuries have ravaged the 49ers’ wide receiver group, leaving the team scrambling to determine who will catch passes from Brock Purdy. San Francisco have already made a trade before the start of the season with the Kansas City Chiefs for Skyy Moore.
Breech suggests pushing for Meyers would secure a proven player, noting Moore has disappointed since the Chiefs drafted him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
“The 49ers are so desperate, they went out and made a trade for Skyy Moore last week, who was a mostly unproven receiver,” Breech added. “Now, this would give them the opportunity to trade for a proven commodity.
“We saw Jakobi Meyers finish with over a thousand receiving yards last season, and he did that even while catching passes from Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew. He’s had over 800 yards in each of his past four seasons, making him someone who could step in and produce in a Kyle Shanahan offense pretty quickly.”
What Would the Raiders Want for Jakobi Meyers?
In his first two seasons with the Silver and Black, Jakobi Meyers has set new career highs each year. In 2023, he notched a career-best eight touchdowns, and in 2024, the 28-year-old surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his career. As a result, he might feel that this production should lead to an increase in pay.
This offseason has already seen several wide receivers on the move, including Deebo Samuel Sr., DK Metcalf, and George Pickens. Still, CBS Sports’ John Breech outlined what could be a realistic trade demand for Meyers.
“Everybody has a price,” Breech said. “So, if some team were to call the Raiders up and offer a third-round pick, I think that absolutely gets the deal done, but that would probably be overpaying. So, maybe the situation is where a team calls up and offers a fourth-round pick.”
It will be interesting to see what the 49ers do and whether the Raiders want to make a trade. San Francisco have paid Purdy a significant amount of money, so they will need to put weapons at his disposal to ensure that head coach Kyle Shanahan can get the most out of their signal-caller.
