Vikings’ Josh Metellus Gets Honest About J.J. McCarthy’s Struggles
It’s been a season to forget so far for the Minnesota Vikings. Though, to be fair, as much as they want to forget it, they will need to remember it for the lessons that it is teaching them.
A lot of fingers are being directed at young signal caller J.J. McCarthy. The play of McCarthy has been overwhelmingly lackluster, even with the qualifier of the expectation that young quarterbacks struggle early in their careers.

An Underwhelming Start for the McCarthy-Era Vikings

The Vikings have a record of 2-4 with McCarthy at the helm. In those games, the individual stats aren’t looking too great for the former Michigan Wolverine.
Through six games, J.J. McCarthy boasts a lowly 54.1% completion percentage. He also has marks of 929 passing yards, 6 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. His 57.9 passer rating is the cherry on top of the disappointment Sunday.
The last two weeks have been the most disappointing of them all. In those games (vs. Chicago, at Green Bay), the statistics are alarming. McCarthy threw for a combined 237 yards, 1 touchdown, and 4 interceptions. Minnesota scored a combined 23 points in these contests.

Per Adam Patrick of The Vikings Age, Vikings safety Josh Metellus came to the defense of J.J. McCarthy.
“I ain’t going to lie, I think [No.] 9 is playing great. When you don’t play as a full team and we don’t give each other a chance to win, quarterbacks get the blame. Just like DBs get the blame when some run pops off, we miss a tackle, and it goes for [a long gain].
It’s never [just] one guy.”
Metellus elaborated further:
“In terms of his ability to grow and develop, we’re talking about a guy who’s had six starts? I think he’s playing really well. I know he’s going to keep getting better. I know the kind of guy he is. Shout out to J.J. for being able to step in and just keep going and ignore the noise.
I don’t know too much [about] what’s going on, but I know it’s not just a QB problem. It’s an all-11 problem. Whenever we’re all on the field, we all have to play as one.”
It’s a great token of respect from the Vikings’ veteran towards McCarthy. It paints a picture that the Minnesota locker room is still behind him, as they understand getting up to NFL speed isn’t the easiest for 22-year-olds.
It is paramount that Kevin O’Connell keeps the locker room rallied around the young kid. Losing the locker room because your young quarterback is struggling could be lethal to the job security of Kevin O’Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
Josh Metellus’ comments indicate that everyone in the TCO Practice Facility still has faith in McCarthy. But could this all change if Max Brosmer does in fact start Sunday and is obviously a better option right now than J.J. McCarthy?
Saquon Barkley’s Incredible Journey From Triumph to Tragedy – The Philadelphia Eagles Star Confronts Devastating Personal Struggles, Battles Injuries, and Fights Through the Darkest Moments of His Life

Philadelphia, PA – The story of Saquon Barkley, the once-promising running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, is one of incredible triumphs, heart-wrenching struggles, and unwavering determination. From his meteoric rise in college football to his struggles in the NFL, Barkley’s journey has been marked by both breathtaking highs and devastating lows. As the star running back now faces the battle of a lifetime, his story serves as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of resilience.
A Promising Start – The Dream Begins
Saquon Barkley’s journey began with all the promise of a future star. Growing up in a sports-oriented family, he was introduced to football at a young age and quickly became a standout player. His talent was undeniable, and by the time he reached college, he was recognized as one of the top running backs in the nation. Barkley’s time at Penn State was nothing short of spectacular, with his dynamic playmaking ability and explosive speed leading the team to numerous victories and propelling him into the national spotlight.
As his college career came to a close, Barkley was selected by the New York Giants with the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The future seemed limitless for the young running back, who was poised to carry the Giants’ storied legacy to new heights. However, in 2025, a surprising trade sent Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles, where his career took on a new chapter. His debut in Philadelphia was met with high expectations, and many believed he was the missing piece to elevate the Eagles to a championship.
The First Test – A Career-Threatening Injury
But just as Barkley’s NFL career seemed to reach new heights, fate dealt him a cruel blow. In his fourth season with the Giants, Barkley suffered a torn ACL during a key game, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. The injury, which had the potential to derail his career, sent shockwaves through the Eagles' organization. Barkley’s future was suddenly uncertain.
“I never thought I’d have to face something like this,” Barkley admitted in a recent interview. “It felt like everything I worked for could be taken away in an instant. It was the hardest time of my life.”
Despite the setback, Barkley’s determination never wavered. He committed to an intense rehabilitation regimen, pushing through the physical and mental challenges that came with the long road to recovery. The injury wasn’t just a physical hurdle but an emotional one, testing Barkley’s resolve and forcing him to reevaluate his career and his purpose.
Personal Tragedy Strikes – A Heartbreaking Loss
Just as Barkley was regaining his form and preparing to return to the field with the Eagles, tragedy struck once again. During his recovery, Barkley faced the devastating loss of his father to heart disease. The man who had been his rock, his greatest supporter, and his biggest inspiration was gone, leaving a deep hole in his heart.
“Losing my dad was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through,” Barkley said, his voice breaking with emotion. “He was everything to me. When I stepped onto that field, I always played for him. He was my biggest cheerleader.”
The loss sent Barkley into a period of deep personal struggle. The pressure of performing at the highest level, combined with the weight of grief and the lingering effects of his injury, began to take a toll on his mental health. Barkley struggled with his emotions, unable to shake the feeling of loss that seemed to shadow him at every turn.
Fighting Through the Darkness – A New Battle
Despite his personal grief, Barkley returned to the field, determined to make his father proud and prove to himself that he could still be the player he always dreamed of becoming. However, the road ahead was anything but easy. The NFL’s demanding schedule, the constant scrutiny from the media, and the pressure of living up to expectations all weighed heavily on Barkley’s shoulders.
“I didn’t talk about it,” Barkley confessed. “I didn’t want anyone to see me struggle. But the mental part of this game is just as important as the physical part. The pressure, the expectations — it can break you if you don’t deal with it.”
It was during this time that Barkley began to seek help, reaching out to therapists and support networks to address his mental health. “I realized that the only way to move forward was to be honest with myself. I couldn’t keep pretending like everything was okay,” he said. “It’s okay to not be okay, and I’ve learned that.”
The Return of the Champion – A New Perspective
As Barkley continues to rebuild his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, his perspective on life and football has changed. He’s no longer solely focused on the game or the pressure to perform. He’s learned to appreciate the journey, the people who support him, and the strength it takes to face adversity head-on.
“I’m not the same person I was before all of this,” Barkley said with a determined smile. “I’ve been through some dark days, but I’ve come out stronger. I’m fighting for something bigger than myself now — for the people who’ve always believed in me and for the legacy I want to leave behind.”
Barkley’s fight isn’t over, but he’s proven that the greatest victories are often those we achieve over ourselves. His story is one of strength, resilience, and the unyielding will to push forward, no matter the odds.
A Message of Hope
Barkley’s story is far from over, but the lessons he’s learned are invaluable. His journey is one of resilience — a testament to the power of perseverance, the strength to confront one’s past, and the courage to continue fighting in the face of overwhelming adversity.
“There’s always light at the end of the tunnel,” Barkley concluded. “No matter how dark the days seem, if you keep pushing, you can find your way through. I’m still here, and I’m still fighting — for myself, for my team, and for everyone who’s ever believed in me.”
As Barkley continues to face the challenges ahead, one thing is certain: the heart of a champion, tested by unimaginable hardships, will never give up. His story is one of incredible perseverance, and it reminds us all that true victory is not found in the wins and losses on the field, but in how we rise above the struggles life throws our way.
