Titans Make Move To Acquire Brian Robinson Jr. From Commanders Following Spears Injury
This trade proposal sees a fourth-year running back head to the Tennessee Titans. The team was dealt a blow as Tyjae Spears went down with an injury in the team’s preseason opener in Tampa.
Now, Bleacher Report proposes a trade with the Washington Commanders. It’s a trade that could be mutually beneficial for both sides as this RB is in the same situation as Terry McLaurin.
Bleacher Report Sends Brian Robinson Jr. to the Titans for 2026 4th and 6th Round Picks
Two draft picks is all it’ll take to land Brian Robinson Jr., according to BR. Moe Moton compiled a list of five teams for Robinson Jr. to go to as it’s been reported that the Commanders are looking to move on from their 2022 3rd round draft pick.
Austin Ekeler and Jacory Croskey-Merritt would lead the backfield, should Robinson Jr. be sent elsewhere. Croskey-Merritt has turned heads this preseason as the team’s 7th round pick prefers to go by ‘Bill’.
Regardless, this is a package that Tennessee is going to explore. Spears is expected to be back in time for the regular season, but injuries haven’t been kind to him in his short career. The Titans No. 81 overall draft pick in 2023 played just 12 games last season. He looked great in his rookie season, but hasn’t been able to bounce back sense.
It’s no surprise that Robinson Jr. didn’t appear in either of the team’s preseason losses. Washington has opened their season 0-2 with two of their key offensive players (Robinson Jr. and McLaurin) refusing to take the field.
Moton’s Explanation as to Why Tennessee is a Great Fit for Brian Robinson Jr.
Cam Ward has looked solid in both of his preseason games so far. The 2025 No. 1 overall pick learned that he may have a little extra on his shoulders this season as Brian Callahan’s job is far from secure.
Moton knows that Ward needs all the help he can get. That’s not to say the Miami graduate is a bad QB, it’s just the landscape of the NFL, “The Titans can still incorporate Spears in the short passing game as an outlet for rookie quarterback Cam Ward, which would be beneficial with the team’s below-average receiver group.”
“Instead of waiting for Spears to make significant progress in development when healthy, the Titans should acquire Robinson, who would bring a different body type and running style,” Moton added.
It’s no secret that Robinson Jr. has also seen injuries hold him back. The 26-year-old has yet to play all 17 games in a season. He missed five games in 2022, two in ’23, and three last season. That said, last year was a career year for the Commanders RB.
Tony Pollard is once again set to be Tennessee’s RB1. The former Dallas Cowboys running back is one of the most underrated in the entire league. He is five games shy of 100 in his career as he’s finished his last three seasons with 1,000+ rushing yards.
Robinson Jr. could be the change of pace back this Titans team needs. Pollard only had five touchdowns last season as the Commanders lead back picked up eight. Seemingly, Pollard would do all the work while Robinson Jr. is the perfect man to punch it in.
