Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi was tasked with upgrading the offensive line this offseason. The need to achieve that goal took on a different tone of importance once the team drafted quarterback Cam Ward at No. 1 overall.
Borgonzi's solution was to sign Dan Moore and Kevin Zeitler to contracts in free agency. JC Latham flipped from left tackle to right tackle following Moore's arrival. It's early, but the struggles to protect Ward in Week 1 versus the Denver Broncos already has the Titans' revamped O-line under fire.
Ward was under pressure on 52.9% of his dropbacks against the Broncos, according to Pro Football Focus. That led the league in that department across Week 1, and by a sizable margin. It was 7.4 percent more than the second-must hurried passer (Caleb Williams,

The biggest issue was the play of Moore at left tackle. The $82 million blindside protector was credited with allowing seven pressures to Broncos pass rusher Nik Bonitto, according to Next Gen Stats. Pro Football Focus had Moore at a friendlier four total pressures allowed, though he was still assigned a pathetic pass-blocking grade of 26.4, and he was whistled for two penalties as well.
The challenge won't get immediately easier. Sunday afternoon's opponent, the Los Angeles Rams, features a pair of excellent EDGEs in Jared Verse and Byron Young. They combined to pressure CJ Stroud seven times in Week 1. Increasing Sunday's difficulty level, right tackle JC Latham will be sidelined with a hip injury.
Borgonzi's decision to sign Moore to an extremely lucrative contract was questioned by the national masses. Moore, and the entire Titans' new-look offensive line, failed to meet expectations in Week 1. Granted, the opponent was a Broncos defense that has continuity up front after leading the NFL in sacks last season, but Titans fans will be analyzing whether this expensive unit improves in the coming weeks.
