The Broncos have confirmed a worst-case scenario involving a key player and have signed a replacement immediately
The Denver Broncos have placed guard Nick Gargiulo on season-ending IR. During the third quarter of the team's 27-7 win against the Arizona Cardinals, Gargiulo needed to be carted off the field.
Both teams gathered around as an ambulance was able to transport him off the field in record time. Even the broadcast crew highlighted how quickly it all unfolded, commending the medical staff while offering their best wishes for the offensive lineman.
On Sunday afternoon, Zac Stevens, Denver Broncos beat reporter for DNVR Broncos, broke the news that the Gargiulo would have his season cut short. He was making a name for himself, fighting his way to a spot on the 53-man roster. After an impressive camp and first preseason game, he was making his case for why he deserved a spot. The team confirmed the news while announcing that they've signed FB Adam Prentice.
Gargiulo had spent the entire 2024 season on the Broncos' practice squad after being selected in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft. With plenty of questions for the offensive line beyond 2026, the guard's ascension during camp was a huge win for the organization. Not only for key depth, but he's a versatile athlete who has experience at center, left tackle, and left guard dating back to his college days playing for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The second-year guard wasn't going to start this year, but his rise through the rankings would allow the team to save money or avoid needing to spend an early-day pick on a similar position after the 2025 NFL season. Thinking far too ahead, but Gargiulo had been shining in camp.
Payton looks to have found a gem in the late rounds; it's just a shame that we have to wait so long to see him back on the field. Hoping for a speedy recovery, we know he'll be ready to set the league on fire once he returns.
