The Cleveland Browns reportedly have a plan in place for rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
The Browns selected Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, after he had hoped of being a first-round pick. Sanders is serving as the backup quarterback, but he has yet to appear in a game.
However, according to NFL insider Tony Rizzo of ESPN Cleveland, the Browns plan on Sanders starting the final four games of the season.
“I need to see Shedeur when they are going to give him a chance,” Rizzo said on ESPN Cleveland. “And, by that, I mean they have to tell him he’s starting on Monday. It’s not going to happen anytime soon, I get it. But you have the Patriots and then the bye week. I was told by two different sources yesterday at the stadium, one said Shedeur will start the last four games of the season, no matter what.
“Unless the Browns win every game through the Titans week, Shedeur will play the Bears, Bills, Steelers, and Bengals; they want to see what he’s got. Another said he could be in play earlier than that.”
If Rizzo’s sources are accurate, it’s clear the Browns have a plan in place for Sanders, and he will be starting multiple games this season.
But for the time being, Dillon Gabriel will remain the starting quarterback for Cleveland.
Sanders is Putting in Extra Work Behind The Scenes
Although Sanders has yet to get into game action, he has been working hard behind the scenes.
Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot reported that Sanders has been doing a ton of extra work as he looks to earn some playing time.
“Myles Garrett also revealed recently that he sees Sanders working with Kevin Stefanski in his office in the early morning hours, which means he’s putting in the extra work. It’s showing up on the practice field, and the Browns are eager to see what he can do this season when the time comes,” Cabot said. “The Browns will give Dillon Gabriel a decent on-ramp, but there will probably come a time in the second half of the season where the Browns will want to see Sanders play. They’re confident he’ll be ready.”
As Cabot notes, the Browns want to see Sanders play in the second half of the season, and he’s going to do whatever it takes to prove he’s a starting quarterback in the NFL.
Browns Coach Took Aim At Offense
Before Cleveland blew out the Miami Dolphins in Week 7, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski ripped into the offense.
The Browns were coming off a blowout loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Stefanski wasn’t pleased with how the offense performed.
“There’s times when you message your football team – I should say this, I message the football team every single day. And there’s sometimes you use different tools to get their attention… The Philly comes out every once in a while,” Stefanski said on Monday.
The Browns’ offense responded in a big way as Cleveland beat the Dolphins 31-6.
