Seahawks Predicted to Cut Ties With Former Cowboys Starter
The Seattle Seahawks brought back veteran defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna this past offseason for defensive line depth. But this preseason, Bohanna could be proving to be expendable.
That’s what Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport argued Thursday when he included Bohanna on his list of “one player each NFL team should cut” prior to the 2025 regular season.
“There probably aren’t going to be any major surprises when the Seattle Seahawks cut the roster down to 53, and the players most expect to make the team will do so,” wrote Davenport.
“Whether that means Seattle is shrewd in selecting starters or a team hurting for depth is a matter of perspective.
“But someone has to go—and when cutdown day happens, Quinton Bohanna will be walking the (neon) green mile.”
Bohanna joined the Seahawks practice squad after the Tennessee Titans released him before the NFL roster cutdown day last year. The veteran defensive lineman appeared in one game for the Seahawks during the 2024 campaign.
Seattle signed Bohanna to a futures contract at the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Bohanna began his career as a 2021 sixth-round pick for the Dallas Cowboys. During the 2022 season, he started nine games for the Cowboys.
Could Seahawks Cut DT Quinton Bohanna?
It’s not overly shocking that Bohanna may not make Seattle’s first 53-man roster. While he was with the team last season, the veteran defensive lineman played just seven defensive snaps in his lone 2024 game for Seattle.
If Bohanna doesn’t earn a spot in Seattle’s defensive line rotation, there’s not much other value he could provide. The last time he played a snap on special teams was 2022.
With the Cowboys in 2022, Bohanna played 265 defensive snaps and 125 snaps on special teams. He started the first nine games in which he dressed during that season for Dallas.
However, Bohanna didn’t play the week after Thanksgiving in 2022 and then was a reserve player beginning in Week 14. He didn’t start again and averaged about 14 defensive snaps per game the rest of that season.
Since then, Bohanna has started just three games.
The defensive lineman played in three games for the Detroit Lions during 2023. He also appeared in three contests for the Tennessee Titans that season. Bohanna started three games combined for the Lions and Titans.
Bohanna played college for four seasons at Kentucky. In 45 games, he posted 59 combined tackles, including nine tackles for loss, four pass defenses and two sacks.
Seahawks Defensive Tackle Depth Entering 2025 NFL Regular Season
The current Seattle depth chart is confirmation that Bohanna is likely to be on the wrong side of the roster bubble.
The Seahawks listed Bohanna as the fourth-team nose tackle. Byron Murphy II, Johnathan Hankins and Brandon Pili were all ahead of Bohanna on the team’s Week 2 preseason depth chart.
Furthermore, Jarran Reed and Bubba Thomas were listed as Seattle’s first- and second-team defensive tackles, respectively.
The Seahawks also have interior defensive linemen J.R. Singleton and Anthony Campbell on their offseason roster. Bohanna was ahead of those two linemen on the nose tackle depth chart.
Bohanna played 20 snaps in Week 2 of the preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs. He also played 21 defensive snaps in Week 1.
According to Pro Football Focus, Bohanna didn’t play particularly well. The lineman posted well below average PFF player grades in both games.
