SAD NEWS: Lions’ Jared Goff and Family Face Heart-Wrenching News – NFL Community Rallies Around Them
In a deeply emotional and devastating announcement, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff and his family are facing an unimaginable challenge as they reveal that their young daughter, Lily Goff, has been diagnosed with a serious medical condition. The news has shaken the NFL community, and fans, teammates, and players from across the league are coming together to offer their support and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
Earlier today, Goff took to his social media platforms to share the heartbreaking news about his daughter. While the specifics of Lily’s condition have been kept private to respect the family's privacy, Jared’s words were filled with both sadness and hope, as he expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans and fellow athletes.
“Lily is the light of our world, and right now she’s facing a challenge that no parent could ever be prepared for,” Goff wrote. “Danielle and I are doing everything in our power to ensure she gets the care and treatment she needs. We are asking for your thoughts, prayers, and support as we go through this difficult time. We believe in her strength, and we are so grateful for all the love we’ve received.”
Known for his leadership on the field and his calm under pressure, Goff has also earned admiration for his character off the field. His devotion to his family and his unshakable strength during this personal crisis have further endeared him to fans and teammates alike. Jared’s ability to open up and share such a deeply personal and difficult situation has only deepened the respect people have for him as both a player and a father.
The announcement has sparked an outpouring of love and support from Lions fans and NFL players around the league. Social media has been flooded with messages of encouragement, prayers, and well wishes for Lily’s recovery. Goff’s teammates have also expressed their solidarity, offering their support and expressing their commitment to standing by him through this challenging journey.
“Jared is a great leader on the field, but he’s an even better man off the field,” said Lions head coach Dan Campbell. “The entire Lions organization is behind Jared, Danielle, and Lily. We are a family, and we will support them in every way possible as they navigate this tough time.”
This news comes at a time when Goff has been playing some of the best football of his career, leading the Lions to a strong season with impressive performances. However, in light of this personal crisis, the focus for Goff is now on his family. Football will take a backseat as Jared and Danielle focus on their daughter’s health and well-being.
As the Goff family faces this heartbreaking challenge, the NFL community has shown the true meaning of solidarity. From fans to players, coaches to organizations, the outpouring of support for Lily is a reminder that in times of crisis, the football world comes together as one.
Jared Goff has always been known for his resilience, but this battle is like no other. With the strength of his family, teammates, and fans behind him, he will face this challenge with the same determination and courage that has defined his career.
Giants Insider Shares Telling Update on Abdul Carter Amid Injury Concerns

The New York Giants released their final injury update on Friday, October 17, ahead of the Week 7 matchup with the Denver Broncos, and it included unexpected news that rookie pass rusher Abdul Carter will be “questionable” for the outing.
“Three Giants are out, including [center] John Michael Schmitz (concussion),” ESPN’s Jordan Raanan relayed on Friday afternoon. “WR Darius Slayton (hamstring) is also doubtful and OLB Abdul Carter (hamstring) [is] questionable.”
Although Carter is dealing with a hamstring issue, which are notoriously tricky, New York Post beat reporter Ryan Dunleavy provided a telling update on the Giants phenom just after the announcement.
“Abdul Carter being questionable is significant news for [the] Giants,” Dunleavy noted. Before adding: “That said, I spoke to him today and his message was that things will be settled on the field in Denver, so he didn’t sound like someone who will not play.”
The current expectation is that Carter will suit up in Week 7, but the same can’t be said about a few other Giants injuries.
3 Giants Ruled Out for Week 7 vs. Broncos
Along with Schmitz, linebackers Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring) and Swayze Bozeman (ankle) will both miss Week 7 against the Broncos, officially.
GIANTS WEEK 7 GAME STATUSES
Out: ▪️LB Swayze Bozeman (Ankle) ▪️LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (Hamstring) ▪️C John Michael Schmitz (Concussion)
Doubtful: ▪️DL Chauncey Golston (Neck) ▪️WR Darius Slayton (Hamstring)
Questionable: ▪️OLB Abdul Carter (Hamstring) ▪️OLB Victor
Defensive lineman Chauncey Golston (neck) is also doubtful to play in Denver, just like Slayton. Even if Carter and injury returnee Victor Dimukeje (pectoral) are both active on Sunday, the Giants could be without five members of their roster.
So, the Week 7 injury concerns are significant. Schmitz and Slayton are the key absences, but Golston is another veteran role player who would be missed on defense.
With Schmitz out, the Giants could roll with backup IOL Austin Schlottmann at center, similar to Week 6. However, another option would be to shift right guard Greg Van Roten to center and start someone like Aaron Stinnie, Marcus Mbow, or Evan Neal at guard.
At wide receiver, the likeliest replacement for Slayton would be veteran Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who was elevated to fill in for the veteran starter last week. The Broncos would be a “revenge game” for Humphrey, who appeared in 34 games with Denver from 2023 through 2024.
