Pete Carroll Backs Geno Smith Amid Struggles, Declares Future Still in His Hands
Las Vegas, NV – The Las Vegas Raiders' turbulent start to the 2025 NFL season has left many questioning the future of quarterback Geno Smith. Despite a rocky stretch of performances, Raiders head coach Pete Carroll remains steadfast in his support for the veteran signal-caller, reaffirming his belief that Smith is the key to turning the team’s fortunes around.
In an exclusive post-game interview following the Raiders’ tough loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Carroll expressed unwavering confidence in Smith, even as critics began to pile on. “Geno’s struggles are on me. I brought him in to lead this team, and I believe in his ability to turn this around,” Carroll said. “We're sticking with him because I know he can get us back on track. The Raiders' future is still in his hands.”
Smith, who led the Seattle Seahawks to a remarkable playoff appearance in 2023, was brought to the Raiders to provide stability and leadership under center. However, his 2025 campaign has been marred by inconsistency, with the Raiders unable to find any rhythm on offense. The veteran quarterback has been unable to replicate his past successes, leading to growing concern among fans and analysts.
But despite the mounting pressure, Carroll continues to back his quarterback, citing Smith’s resilience and leadership qualities as crucial elements for the team’s long-term success. “It’s not about the bad games; it’s about how you respond,” Carroll said. “Geno’s a pro. He’s got the experience and the mindset to shake off these losses. We just have to get him the right support and adjust our game plan to fit his strengths.”
Smith’s performance against the Colts, where he threw two interceptions and failed to lead a single touchdown drive, added to the mounting frustration surrounding the Raiders. The offense, once seen as a potential strength with the acquisition of Smith, has yet to live up to expectations.
Carroll, known for his unwavering belief in his players, stressed that the Raiders were still in the early stages of their season and that panic was premature. “We’ve got time to figure this out,” he said. “I’ve seen Geno perform at the highest level. We just need to work through these growing pains together.”
While Carroll’s endorsement may bring a sense of stability to the team, it also raises questions about the Raiders’ future trajectory. With a young, talented roster surrounding Smith, the team’s success hinges on his ability to find consistency and execute under pressure.
As the Raiders prepare for their next game, it remains to be seen whether Carroll’s faith in Smith will pay off or whether the team will need to consider other options under center. For now, all eyes remain on Geno Smith, and his ability to live up to the high expectations set for him by both his head coach and the organization.
Patriots Unveil New White-on-White Uniforms for Week 6 Game Against Saints

When the New England Patriots visit the Saints on Sunday, they’ll look different from how they have at any point in their franchise history.
On Wednesday, the Patriots revealed a new white-on-white uniform scheme that they’ll debut in their Week 6 game in New Orleans. The white pants are the most notable addition, as they’ve never been paired with the modern white uniform, which became one of New England’s primary uniform tops in 2020.
Excluding throwback-themed games, in which the Patriots pair white pants with the red “Pat Patriot” uniform, New England hasn’t used white pants since it did so for a color-rush game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017.
Whether this is a sign of things to come remains to be seen. However, the reaction to the white-on-white uniforms was overwhelmingly positive on social media, so perhaps the Patriots will listen to their fans.
Reminder: In Week 11, the Patriots will debut their NFL “Rivalries” uniform — dubbed the “Nor’easter” uniform — when they host the New York Jets.
