Packers could trade WR after latest contract move, with teams calling
The Green Bay Packers have a stacked wide receiver room, and teams around the league are calling about the availability of one of their stars.
Rumors are starting to swirl that Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs could be available in a trade. The 4th-year playmaker had a great game to open the season, but the Packers’ overcrowded wide receiver room could mean he’s on the move.

Romeo Doubs is entering the final year of his contract, and teams are interested
Romeo Doubs led the Green Bay Packers in receiving in the opening game of the season. In the win over the Detroit Lions, Doubs caught two passes for 68 yards, including a 48-yard reception in the second quarter that put the Packers in the red zone.
Doubs is playing on the final year of his rookie contract, as a fourth-round draft pick from the 2022 class. Green Bay may struggle to retain him at the end of the year, so trading him now could be an option.
Despite a history of injuries, Green Bay showed faith in Christian Watson this week, handing him a one-year, $13.25 million contract extension. He was a second-round selection in the same class as Doubs, and is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL.
The Packers can’t pay everybody, and Jayden Reed will be due for an extension soon, too.
According to multiple reports, the Packers have taken calls about Doubs’ availability, with at least two teams around the NFL putting offers on the table.

While it might make sense to pick up a mid to late round pick rather than lose Doubs for nothing at the end of the season, this is a team hoping to compete for a Super Bowl.
The savvy route runner is far more valuable to the franchise this season than a draft pick would be, so they have a difficult decision to make in the coming weeks.
Doubs ran 17 routes in Sunday’s win over Detroit, second only to tight end Tucker Kraft, who ran 18.
The wide receiver had a great year in 2023, catching 69 passes for 908 yards and nine touchdowns. He missed a little time last season, but still recorded 48 catches for 614 yards and four scores.
Doubs certainly has WR2 capabilities, and that’s going to appeal to teams in a potential trade.
First-round rookie Matthew Golden had a couple of catches for 16 yards, and his anticipated breakout could be another factor in how they view Doubs’ future with the franchise.
Teams that could make the call for Doubs if he is to be traded
Doubs could be a great fit for the New York Jets, who are currently a little thin at wide receiver. They only had three receivers contribute in the pass game in Week 1, and while they’re a run-first team, they need better depth.
Romeo Doubs is used to run blocking responsibilities in Green Bay’s system, so he would fit in nicely with what Aaron Glenn is trying to do in New York. Glenn will know the playmaker well, too, having played against him twice a year as the defensive coordinator in Detroit in recent years.
The Tennessee Titans could also be an option, after what was a miserable performance for Cam Ward’s pass catchers in Week 1. The rookie quarterback showed flashes of his potential in a tough road game against the Denver Broncos, but his receivers were struggling to get open.
The 49ers are banged up on offense, again, so they could use the help, and the New York Giants could do with an upgrade at wide receiver, too.
Texans Planning Bigger Role for Nick Chubb

Expect to see some more Nick Chubb in the Houston Texans' offense after a solid Week 1 showing.
Following Houston's season opener loss vs. the LA Rams, 9-14, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was still impressed by what he saw from Chubb in his debut since signing in June. In all, Chubb finished with 13 carries for 60 yards on the ground, averaging 4.6 yards a carry and leading the way in touches throughout the running back room.
And moving forward into the year, Ryans says he wants to lean on Chubb a bit more in the backfield.
"I think Chubb ran the ball really well," Ryans said in an interview with Texans Radio. "We tried to mix it up with the backs– got Woody some touches, Dameon [Pierce]– we're going to try to lean in with Chubb a little bit more."
"He deserves it. He’s shown that he continues to get better as the game went on. You saw him running stronger, finishing plays in a physical manner. So, we've got to get him going a little bit more, and I think he can really help us."
Chubb has seemingly made a super strong impression in the Texans' building since arriving on his one-year, $5 million deal in the offseason, and without Joe Mixon in the fold as he deals with a foot injury that has placed him on the Injured Reserve for at least the first four weeks of the year, the door has opened for Chubb to have some major responsibility in this scoring unit.
Chubb sits in the Texans' running back room alongside veteran Dameon Pierce, rookie Woody Marks, and team captain Dare Ogunbowale to share the workload with– certainly a group that faced a fair share of questions before the season, of just how the responsibilities would be divided in the backfield.
But, as Chubb continues to prove he's healthy from last season and the most productive guy in the room, Ryans clearly wants to get the ball in his hands in the run game while they deal with Mixon's absence– however long that may be– and bank on his physicality and consistent improvements to be a driving force in their work on the ground.
Chubb has reportedly been consistent and hard-working for the Texans dating back to training camp, has clear respect in the locker room from teammates and the coaching staff, and of course, has a proven track record in the league of being one of the better runners of the football in recent history while at his peak production.
That doesn't mean you won't see guys like Pierce, Marks, and Ogunbowale get some occasional reps their way as well, but if Ryans' comments prove true, we could very well be looking at the start of Chubb being a real bellcow in Houston.
