Kyle Shanahan Calls for Greater Consistency and Stability from 49ers’ Offense as They Strive for Improvement in the Second Half of the Season

Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, has expressed a clear desire for his offensive unit to achieve more consistency as the season progresses. While the team has shown flashes of brilliance, Shanahan acknowledged that the offense has been inconsistent, which has hampered the team’s ability to fully capitalize on their potential.
“We’ve had some great moments, but we need to be more consistent on offense,” Shanahan said in a press conference following their latest game. “We can’t afford to have those stretches where we stall or don’t execute at the level we know we’re capable of. Our offense needs to be more reliable week in and week out.”
Shanahan, known for his innovative play-calling and ability to design creative offensive schemes, has seen both success and struggles this season with the 49ers' offense. Quarterback Brock Purdy, running back
“We’re still trying to find that rhythm,” Shanahan continued. “It’s a process, and we’ve got to make sure that we’re executing every play to the best of our ability. We’ve got the talent, but talent alone won’t get it done if we’re not all in sync.”
The 49ers have a loaded roster with key playmakers, but Shanahan pointed out that success in the NFL is about execution and reliability. “We need to make sure we’re performing at a high level, not just in flashes but on every single drive,” he said. “Whether it's protecting the ball, finishing drives, or converting third downs, we need to be more efficient.”
With the season entering its second half, Shanahan’s focus will likely be on fine-tuning the offense and getting it to a level where they can challenge the league’s top defenses consistently. The 49ers’ playoff hopes hinge on this stability, and Shanahan is hopeful that the team will find its groove as they move forward.
“We know what we’re capable of,” Shanahan said. “Now it’s time to take that next step and show it week in and week out. We’re focused on getting better every day.”
Kansas City Chiefs elevate RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire from the practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs enter their Week 9 matchup with the Buffalo Bills without their starting running back, Isiah Pacheco, due to injury. The absence of Pacheco may have prompted the decision to call up a former first-round pick from the practice squad.

According to the team transaction report, Kansas City has activated Practice Squad players running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and offensive lineman C.J. Hanson via Standard Elevation on Saturday.
Edwards-Helaire was selected by Kansas City in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Louisiana State University, where he was a CFP National Champion in 2019. The former Tiger won two Super Bowls in four years with the Chiefs and was the opening week starting running back during his rookie season.
The veteran running back started the 2024 season in Kansas City on the NFL's Reserve/Non-Football Injury list, but was battling PTSD and was not being utilized by the Chiefs. He was released later in the year and picked up by the New Orleans Saints, from whom he was recently let go after this year's preseason.
Edwards-Helaire has accumulated 1,891 career rushing yards and 19 total touchdowns as he looks for more success in Kansas City for the second time around.
