Kellen Moore gives clear answer on whether Saints will add veteran QB
Reports indicated that the New Orleans Saints were not impressed with their quarterbacks' performances. The competition mainly comes down to Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough. With both struggling in the preseason, analysts and fans speculated the Saints might add a veteran quarterback. However, that is not going to happen.
Saints coach Kellen Moore was firm in his outlook regarding the team's quarterback situation following Saturday's 28-19 loss to the Denver Broncos in the preseason finale. After being asked whether the Saints are considering bringing in a veteran quarterback, Moore did not hesitate.
"We feel great about this group," he told reporters. "We've invested and poured a lot into these guys. These guys are young guys who are going to keep growing each and every day, and we are excited to see where this thing goes for all of them."
The Saints have faced questions about the experience level in their quarterback room throughout the offseason. Their roster features young quarterbacks, but after three preseason games, including Saturday's loss, Moore's assessment remains unchanged.
Moore addressed the organization's approach to preseason games and how the team balances showing enough to make decisions while not revealing all of its plans.
"There are certain aspects of our offense, defense and special teams that you naturally are not going to do in preseason," Moore said. "We feel like you do want to give these guys a chance to be successful and put them in good situations. There's enough film over the last few years of our offense, defense and special teams. People have an idea. Certainly, those things we feel comfortable with, we show them and put them on film. We will save the other things for later."
Jake Haener will definitely be the Saints' QB3. The tougher decision for Kellen Moore will be choosing the starter between Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough.
