Jets, Patriots Awaiting Decision From NFL After Stefon Diggs Incident
Stefon Diggs played a pivotal role in the New England Patriots’ 27-14 win over the New York Jets on Thursday night. The All-Pro wide receiver caught nine passes from quarterback Drake Maye for a game-high 105 yards. Diggs did not score a touchdown on Thursday, but he was a key contributor in New England’s eighth straight victory.
Apart from his heroics against the Jets, Diggs was involved in a contentious incident in the second quarter of the game. Diggs took a big hit from New York cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr., which resulted in a 15-yard penalty in favor of the Patriots. The NFL will now review the incident to determine a potential punishment.

Diggs is in his first season in Foxborough after signing with the Patriots in the offseason on a three-year, $69 million max deal. In 11 games played in 2025, the four-time Pro Bowler has registered 59 receptions for 659 yards and three touchdowns.
On Thursday against New York, Diggs was body slammed by Brownlee after the Pats star caught an eight-yard pass from Maye. The game officials immediately flagged Brownlee for unnecessary roughness and a 15-yard penalty.
According to the NFL rulebook, unnecessary roughness is defined as “unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture.” The NFL Officiating Department will review this incident, which could result in a fine for Brownlee.
The decision will be announced in the NFL’s weekly gameday accountability update, which is published every Saturday. For context, there were several unnecessary roughness fines issued in Week 10. The penalties ranged from $6,062 for a facemask violation on Davis Allen of the Los Angeles Rams, to a massive $100,000 hip-drop tackle penalty for Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu (multiple offenses).
It is also worth noting that Brownlee, who was with the Tennessee Titans earlier this season before being traded to the Jets, has already been fined this year. He was slapped with a $5,808 punishment for a facemask violation in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.
Commanders QB Jayden Daniels Receives Injury Update on Monday

The Washington Commanders were without franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels on Sunday, as the former second overall pick missed the first game of his NFL career. Head coach Dan Quinn and the Commanders didn't seem to miss a beat without him, however.

Washington took down the Las Vegas Raiders 41-24 thanks to the play of backup quarterback Marcus Mariota. He played phenomenally in the absence of Daniels, who was out due to a knee sprain he suffered in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers.
On Monday, Quinn provided an update on Daniels' injury and the possibility of him playing in Week 4.
Quinn said that Daniels remains day-to-day because of the knee sprain, and there is no clear timetable for his return, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Schefter also said that because of how well Mariota played in Daniels' absence, there is no need for the Commanders to rush him back.
Daniels led the Commanders to a 1-1 record through the first two games of the 2025 season before his injury. Through two games, Daniels threw for 433 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
This comes after Daniels had an incredible rookie campaign last season. He was selected to the Pro Bowl and took home AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after throwing for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns with nine interceptions. He also ran for 891 yards and six more scores on the ground.
On Sunday, with Daniels out, Mariota was fantastic. He totaled a pair of touchdowns while throwing for 207 yards and rushing for 40 more.
Although it is unclear at the moment if Daniels will be able to play this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, Quinn and the rest of the Commanders know they are in good hands with Mariota under center.
