Jauan Jennings Reflects on Fan Support and Contract Disputes After Big Game
Posted September 16, 2025
The San Francisco 49ers’ wins over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 and New Orleans Saints in Week 2 were gutsy and hard-fought, especially given how many key 49ers offensive players have been sidelined.
Brock Purdy, George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and Demarcus Robinson have missed at least one of the two games. Jauan Jennings and Kyle Juszczyk also missed significant game time with injuries.
But the 49ers’ Faithful fans, perhaps sensing that their team needed an extra boost, have turned out in record numbers for the first two road games.
Jennings revealed just how key that is for him personally during his postgame press conference.
“Everywhere we go and we see 49ers fans it just turns me up,” Jennings said. “It kills me if I can’t play knowing that we got all these old faithful here. That’s what it’s about.”
Jennings Had A Great Offensive Performance
Jauan Jennings, who was questionable to even play earlier in the week with a shoulder injury, was the 49ers’ leading receiver in their 26-21 win against New Orleans.
Working with new quarterback Mac Jones, Jennings hauled in 5 passes for 89 yards. That included a 42-yard touchdown that was ultimately the game winner.
After his long touchdown catch and run, Jennings leapt into a sea of 49ers fans to show his appreciation for their passionate support.
In two games, Jennings had 7 catches for 105 yards and the one touchdown to his name.
He is the 49ers’ most proven, healthy receiver amidst the Aiyuk and Kittle injuries. Jennings had a breakout year in 2024, with career highs in catches (77), yards (975) and touchdowns (6).
Alongside second-year pro Ricky Pearsall, Jennings is trying to provide some sense of stability for Jones amidst an otherwise young, inexperienced and unproven offense.
Jennings’ Comments Are Great To See After The Offseason
Jauan Jennings’ shoutout to 49ers faithful as his biggest motivation will likely win back the hearts of some fans who aren’t too happy with him after the offseason.
Jennings and the 49ers front office stubbornly fought over a contract dispute for most of the offseason. He requested a trade or a new contract just one offseason after the 49ers gave Aiyuk a big raise.
He was also nursing a calf injury that kept him out for much of the preseason, adding to the frustration on all sides.
Ultimately, Jennings got neither a trade nor a new contract, instead receiving an increase in his contract incentives ahead of the season.
The 49ers are reportedly still hoping to extend Jennings’ contract during the season.
Most 49ers faithful ultimately understand that Jennings harbors no ill feelings towards 49ers management. He wants to stay in San Francisco, he just also wants to get paid what he feels that he deserves in the process.
This Sunday’s comments only made it more clear that Jennings and San Francisco are a perfect match.
49ers fans, what did you think about Jauan Jennings’ performance against the Saints, and so far this season in general? Do you want to see him get a contract extension soon?
Kerby Joseph’s QB Moment Sparks Lions’ Ultimate Revenge Dance
The Detroit Lions dominated the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon. Jared Goff threw for five touchdowns , Jahmyr Gibbs went for nearly 100 yards, and the defense held strong. During the game, Kerby Joseph and Amik Robertson took a little shot at former offensive coordinator and current Bears head coach Ben Johnson.
Joseph picked off Caleb Williams on a long throw in the second quarter. Following this, he and the defense ran to the endzone, where they lined up as if they were running an offensive play. Joseph took a snap, stumbled, and threw a pass to Robertson.
This is a recreation from the “Stumble Bum” play Detroit ran last season. Ironically, that play was created by Johnson. And to add another layer of irony, they ran the play against the Bears in Chicago at Soldier Field. After Sunday’s game, Robertson revealed how that celebration came together.
“You know what’s crazy? I give all credit to Kerby. He just told me, ‘Go for a pass.’ I didn’t know what he was going to do. And that was one of the craziest celebrations ever,” the Lions defensive back said, via 97.1 The Ticket’s Jeff Riger.
Lions pick up personal win over Ben Johnson, Bears
The Lions had all the motivation they could want heading into Week 2. Detroit was dominated by the Green Bay Packers despite a respectable 27-13 scoreline. Furthermore, they had their home opener against their former coordinator.
Of course, teams lose coordinators all the time. The Lions especially felt this in the offseason. In addition to Johnson leaving, former defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn left the team to become the head coach of the New York Jets.
However, Detroit certainly felt some type of way about Johnson. It’s not that he left, this was a possibility they were aware of. It’s where he went. Johnson went to the Bears, an NFC North Division rival as well as a longtime rival regardless of division.
The Lions wanted to take down a friend-turned-foe . And they sent a huge message to the rest of the NFC North in the process. Detroit will look to move above .500 in Week 3 when they travel to face the Baltimore Ravens.
