Howie Roseman proved once again how Eagles fleeced 1 team in 2025 trade
One thing NFL fans know by now is that if there is a sequel to the "Art of the Deal" book, it should be Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman penning the book. That's more evident than ever after he pulled off another great deal that has the Eagles winning it and one other team behind the chains.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the Houston Texans had released tight end Harrison Bryant. The Texans acquired Bryant as part of the trade made last week with the Eagles , which included Houston receiving Philadelphia's 2026 fifth-round pick and the Eagles acquiring wide receiver John Metchie III and a 2026 sixth-round pick.
Bryant caught two passes for 13 yards in his lone preseason game with Houston. Metchie only had one reception for 14 yards against the New York Jets, but did make the Eagles' 53-man roster on Tuesday.
Give Roseman a phone and he can strike a great deal for the Eagles
It's only been a little over a week, but the Eagles have clearly won the deal against Houston. The deal was originally made as the Eagles were working on adding more depth to the wide receiver position. A move that proved to be the right one, as a few days later, fellow wide receiver Johnny Wilson was knocked out for the season with an injury.
Houston needed help at tight end after Brevin Jordan was going to be gone for the season with an injury. Bryant ultimately faced too much stiff competition from the other tight ends brought in and lost a roster spot as a result.
While there might not have been a clear path for Bryant to make the Eagles or Texans roster, Metchie will end up playing a critical role in the Eagles' offense. He will be seen as WR4 and should find some playing time. He might even get some looks on special teams, so he could end up being a secret weapon for the Eagles.
Technically, fans have to wait to see how the draft picks in the Metchie-Bryant trade are used before calling a winner. Still, it certainly feels like the fat lady is already singing, and she is crowning Roseman and the Eagles winners of their trade with Houston.
