History Says the Saints Will Be QB Shopping Again Next Year
It's not a common thing to see a quarterback taken in the second round of the National Football League draft. Only 25, including New Orleans Saints rookie Tyler Shough, have been taken since the turn of the century.

That may not seem like much, but it's rare compared to the 77 taken in the first round since 2000. Not many of them have seen success either, with only some managing to carve out a name for themselves. Notable names of second-round quarterbacks taken include, but aren't limited to, Drew Brees, Drew Stanton, Jalen Hurts, Andy Dalton, Will Levis, Geno Smith, and Jimmy Garoppolo.
Here's hoping that Tyler Shough isn't one of those names that is having to write back. Kellen Moore and company will certainly be hoping he turns out to be a little bit like Saints legend Drew Brees or Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.
For Saints QB Tyler Shough, there isn't much room for error
The career of a second-round quarterback is not something that's guaranteed. Some have left the league within just a few years of being drafted, like former Dallas Cowboys draft pick Quincy Carter, while some ended up being career backups, like Marques Tuiasosopo, former Oakland Raiders draft pick. Then of course there's the previously mentioned Drew Brees and Jalen Hurts, who both have a Super Bowl victory and Super Bowl MVP.
That leaves Shough without much margin for error, because with the track record of his fellow second-round quarterbacks, he'll either be a career journeyman backup, a franchise's greatest quarterback, or out of the league after just one contract.
So far, Shough hasn't played enough football to tell which path he might take. Heading into week nine, where he'll get his first start, he's only seen 42 snaps of real NFL football. His first start is also set to be a real challenge, as he'll be going up against the Los Angeles Rams, who have one of the top defenses this year.
Only time will tell how the career of the Saints' rookie quarterback will go, but there is also only one person who can determine how it will happen: Tyler Shough himself. He's not going at it alone, though. He has the entire Saints organization, even the guy whose job he just took, behind him. Hopefully, that's enough to help him succeed.
Ashton Jeanty’s $75,000 Donation to Fight Hunger in Wisconsin Highlights His Leadership Beyond the Field

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty continues to prove that his leadership extends far beyond the football field. Following a viral post from former President Barack Obama, Jeanty stepped up to join the national campaign against hunger in America with a $75,000 donation to Feeding Wisconsin, an initiative dedicated to supporting families struggling with food insecurity across the state.

Obama’s post on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted the alarming statistic that “more than 47 million Americans — including one in five children — don’t have reliable access to nutritious food.” Within hours of the post, Jeanty, who has quickly become one of the most exciting young running backs in the NFL, responded by contributing a generous sum to help alleviate the hunger crisis in Wisconsin.
The Raiders’ star has been performing at a high level this season. Through the first eight games of the year, Jeanty has rushed for 1,200 yards and 9 touchdowns, establishing himself as a dynamic force in the Las Vegas offense. As the team fights for a playoff spot, Jeanty has proven that he is more than just a rising talent—he is a player with a heart as big as his speed.
Speaking on his donation, Jeanty expressed a deep connection to the state of Wisconsin, stating, “I understand what it’s like for families to struggle, and if I can use my platform to make sure fewer kids go to bed hungry, then that’s a victory that goes far beyond the game.”
Barack Obama, whose leadership on social issues has resonated with many throughout his career, praised Jeanty’s selfless act. He posted on X, saying, “Ashton Jeanty reminds us that leadership isn’t just about performance — it’s about purpose. Proud to see another young athlete stepping up for America’s families.” The former president also took the time to send Jeanty a handwritten letter, accompanied by a framed presidential photograph, acknowledging his efforts to make a positive impact off the field.
As Jeanty continues to lead the Raiders toward playoff contention, his influence reaches far beyond the locker room. Fans of the Las Vegas Raiders are not only cheering for his on-field success—they are also rallying behind his commitment to making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
For the residents of Las Vegas, Jeanty’s contribution has cemented his place as more than just the running back for their beloved team. In his words, “Winning games is important, but if I can make a difference in people’s lives, that’s the real victory.”
As the Raiders prepare for their Week 9 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium, fans will no doubt be watching their star running back not just for his performance, but also for his unwavering commitment to improving his community and the nation as a whole.
This is what true leadership looks like—on and off the field.
