Fan at PPG Paints Arena falls from upper concourse to lower bowl during Penguins-Blues game
A fan at PPG Paints Arena fell from the upper concourse to the lower bowl during Monday’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues.

According to multiple reports, the incident occurred during the first period and following the Penguins’ second goal of the night scored by former Washington Capitals forward Anthony Mantha.
The unidentified man fell from the steps between sections 201 and 234 and was treated by first responders. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, he was transferred to a local hospital. No details about the circumstances of the fall were immediately available.
“The Pittsburgh Penguins can confirm that an adult male fell from the upper concourse to the lower bowl at PPG Paints Arena earlier this evening,” the Penguins wrote in a statement. “The individual was immediately attended to by Pittsburgh EMS as well as PPG Paints Arena personnel and has since been transported to a local hospital. Although there is no further information at this time, the Penguins and OVG Management Group are closely monitoring the situation. Our concerns remain with the individual and his family at this time.”
The unfortunate event left a gloom over the night’s contest, where Penguins captain Sidney Crosby became the ninth player in NHL history to record 1,700 career points.
“[It] doesn’t feel right to be talking about points when we hear something like that,” Crosby told reporters post-game, per TribLive. “So obviously, our thoughts and prayers are with that person and their family and hopefully, that they’re okay… it feels kind of weird talking about hockey when something like that happens and you find that out.”
This was the third recorded instance of a person falling a significant distance at a Pittsburgh sporting facility this year. In April, a fan fell onto the playing surface at PNC Park during a Pirates game and on Saturday, a worker at Acrisure Stadium fell 50 feet onto a catwalk while working on the scoreboard.
